Active Engine Guards

From Samurider, here are a pair "Active" engine guards. These are lower profile that the larger "Over" engine guards and slightly less expensive at 25K yen plus shipping. (Over engine guards are back ordered until the end of the month)

I've never had engine guards on any of my bikes and didn't know what to expect in terms of weight and strength. These are fairly light weight, maybe 1.5 to 2 lbs each and are (surprizing to me) thin walled tubing. So I don't know how they would do in a crash and hope to never find out.

The right side guard went on in 10 minutes. I was ham fisted putting on the left and managed to bugger the bolt, then break the bolt off in the fixed nut while the clamp was held in a vice.

I drilled out the broken bolt but in the process hardened the nut, so I temporarily put an undersized 3/16th nut and bolt in place.

I told Takashi about it. He said to use grease the next time......with the free replacement clamp and bolt he just sent me.

They may be the difference between riding home and getting towed. I went with the less expensive SW Motech units from Twisted Throttle and feel much better now that the bike has them on. I'd much rather ding up the case savers than bits on this nice bike. Now I'm looking for sliders for the bottoms of the forks and other protectors.

After all, you wear protection for yourself (or you should seriously consider it). Insurance is for the bigger boo-boo's like bent forks, dinged tank etc. Smaller stuff I prefer to handle with "gear".

Instead of grease, pick up a package of anti-sieze the next time you're in the parts store. It comes in large jars with a brush on the cap, but I get the small squeeze pack instead for a buck. The small pack lasts quite a while for home use. Not only will it lube the threads, but as the name implies, you can easily remove bolts years later that would otherwise have corroded into a state of FUBAR.

I have to admit cb4me you have accessorized exactly how I want mine to look. I just ordered the puig plus windscreen. I still have to order the side panels, chrome chain guard. I did install the over engine guards. it will still take some time. where did you get the red side panels from. did they come with the 3d cb1100 badge?? or did you take the badge from the silver panels somehow???

The "CB1100" 3D badges came from Babbitts Honda Parts House.

Folks had to order 3D badges seperately when the only available side covers came with cheap decals.

Now you can order side panels with 3D badges already installed!

That's a nice collection of new parts. Major changes on the way.

To answer your question, the Puig Plus is very nice - looks good, easy to mount, and relatively inexpensive. It is fairly thin and flexible so you'll see the top of the screen move about a bit, but it absolutely stays put at its mounting points even at 100+ mph. It does a good job taking the wind off your chest but may create a bit more wind force over your helmet depending on your height (I'm 6'1").

I just put the silver sprocket cover on my bike. It makes a big difference in the look.

Combined with your chrome chain guard, it will make that side of the bike considerable brighter (the anti Black-style).

I'm going full bore Red style, having added red air cover cleaners. A red Chic Design Road Comet is on order and will complete the look.

how does it handle on turns, does it scrape when you are leaning or prevent you from doing it?
