Are slip ons really worth that much money though? I'd say $300-400 tops for a slip on. Accessories and aftermarket parts for the CB seemed way overpriced. I spent $400 on a full black ceramic coated exhaust system for my shadow I had, superb quality. $650-800 will get you a full thunderheader system for a harley. Is it because this is all imported? I'd love to get a slip on but no way I'll fork out that much for a small performance gain and a few dbs till these prices come down. for $735 I'd expect it to retain the heat shield.

Part of the price determination is the number of units a manufacturer can expect to sell. Kits for Shadows and various HDs are going to sell many times more than a low-volume bike like the CB, so they can amortize the design, tooling, and manufacturing costs over many more customers.

That makes sense. But it's still hard to swallow a $700+ bill for a slip on.

Ok here's one way to think of it which may help you justify it (I use this reasoning with my wife when I want to purchase a used motorcycle). A particular product be it motorcycle or slip on muffler only costs you the DIFFERENCE of what you PAY for it, and what you SELL it for. For example I bought my last used Yamaha FZ-1 for $3000. I rode it a couple of years, and sold it for $2850. So owning that FZ-1 only cost me $150. My wife could live with that.

Now, lets say you want a Staintune slip on for your CB 1100 and it's $700. You buy it, run it for a couple years, and when you are ready to sell the bike, you remove the Staintune and sell it to someone on the forum for $350 (the going rate of used stuff online is approx 50% of new price). So in effect the pipe only cost you $350 which is a very reasonable price for a slip on.

Of course this only works if you are buying motorcycles used or selling your CB 1100 eventually.
