Sometimes it's the little things

I did the Chip Beck lic plate mod on my bike a while back. The dealership had given me a plastic chrome lic plate frame with their name on it when I bought the bike. The chrome didn't hold up too well. Chip had a nice small black frame around his plate and I liked that look. I asked at the dealership, and they didn't have any black frames and no offer to order me one. (Hmmpph parts people these days..order takers..certainly not salespeople. Customer service? What's that?)

So, I broke out the satin black spray paint and painted the chrome one black. (BTW please...nobody look at my lic number as I am paranoid)

It looked alright. Better than the plastic chrome anyway, but I kept thinking about the thin one Chip had and how I liked that look better. Mine covered up half of the state name and part of the info on the registration stickers required by the state.

Saw some online but figured freight would be more than the lic plate frame itself. They showed online as being at Walmart but when I went up to the local one they weren't. Stopped at an Auto Zone on the off chance that they might have one. Nope.Today I went to Pep Boys and bought a new grease gun for my lawn tractor and mc trailer as my old one wore out. Paid for the grease gun, started to walk out, and remembered the frame. Asked at the counter and sure enough sales girl leads me back to the frames and there's a thin metal black one. Only $ 5.99. Sold.

Took it home, made sure the holes lined up. They did (you can see where the old plate covered by the dirt line if you look close). As you can see you can now read Ohio and the lic registration stickers.

Washed the plate with some Windex, mounted that baby up and waalaa

Ferret. Nice look. Mine is almost identical. Always amazes me how most auto stores have very little bike related gear.

Really ferret!?Huh I'm disappointed. After 50 years of riding you of all people should know the only thing lamer than a dealer frame is a temp tag. It was one of the first things I bought. Picked one up for less than $10. It looks much better now!

I personally never have understood why people think a frame makes the plate look "better". To me all it does is to cover up important details like say...oh....the state you're from and with some even the stickers for the month and year.

Too each his own I guess.

Every time I take my bike to the dealer, they put a frame carrying their name on the bike. Every time they do, I take it off.

If the it wasn't so cheap looking, I'd have kept my dealer frame. I love my Honda dealer would have continued to advertise for them, something I have never done for any car dealer. Nothing lame about it at all.

Love how the new frame looks, Mickey. Good choice.

Well its good that you finally found one only three stores into it lol. I ordered mine online. I don't mind paying a few bucks shipping if it saves me from driving all over gods green earth, plus for stuff like that the selection is almost always better online and they make returns pretty easy now days, if you ever needed to return anything which is rare.

My dealer 's frame is like the one Ferret showed, but in white with big red letters--pretty ugly. Its hanging in my garage. They also like to put a big sticker on bikes, but couldn't find a place on the CB so I didn't have to peel that off.

They stock Kuryakyn frames in chrome and black that are small edged. I have a chrome one. They will also order anything. Since they give a 10% discount if you bought your bike there, the price is usually pretty close to internet prices.

Since we're talking about little things, has anybody replaced the stock valve stem caps with anything fancier?

I put chrome stem caps on mine. Some members got some Honda caps and put on theirs. One member who doesn't post anymore got them from the UK and sold a bunch to members. They are pretty cool looking. I may be able to find a thread that shows them.
OK, after thinking about it, I put chrome ones on the ST and black aluminum ones on the CB. The black matches my wheels better.
Ok, if you want to see the Honda cap, see this thread. Scroll down until you see Ridem32's post and look at the pic by his name. [url=http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=3519&page=2]http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread....519&page=2

Or search on Ridem32 and look at most any of his posts.
