Sorry to hear about your accident.
I come on here to read, as I miss riding the bike. Reading things like this reassure me as to why I don’t get back on the bike. I also keep my banged up helmet in my garage as a reminder. I had to laugh at the poop memory though- after my wreck I didn’t poop for like a week. Weird feeling wondering what’s going on inside. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

mickey, they used two large screws and some bizarre Carpathian superglue to reassemble what they described as "a jigsaw puzzle" of a shattered right heelbone. The femur now sports two long titanium rods, each accompanied by a pair of large, scary-looking screws. The second rod extends all the way up into the rounded balljoint, which slots within the surgically-repaired hip.
Pretty sure I'm going to end up walking like Keith Richards.

geez the Xrays of those screw contraptions are always so gnarly looking. Screws facing up, screws facing down, like a lousy carpenter did it.
If you end up walking at all, that's good VLJ. You'll probably be able to get a handicap placard for your car so you can park right up front, but hopefully you won't need it. Do you remember the accident at all?

Nope, I never lost consciousness. This is the first accident that immediately hurt on contact, probably because there really wasn't any contact with other vehicles in any of my other crashes. Those were all single-vehicle incidents.
In this one, I screamed inside my helmet; first, when his front-left bumper drilled me, and again when I hit the ground after flying forty feet. Between my very expensive Arai helmet and my scissored-away Rev-It Poseidon riding suit, there went $2,500, right down the drain. That was my first thought as I was lying there, and the magnitude of what had befallen me became clear. I was bitterly angry at the driver for destroying my brand-new Kawasaki, which was working so beautifully that day. I was also angry at him for rendering my red CB1100 EX an orphan. I was very happy with both bikes. Neither deserved this fate. Lastly, I was quite angry at the physical pain and coming financial stress he'd so carelessly dumped on me. Those were my thoughts while lying on the asphalt, trying to catch my breath.

A good attorney will fix the financial pain. Money heals nothing but unless you were at fault, the money part should work generously in your favor. Bikes and riding gear can be replaced. You can't. Your only job at this point is to keep your wits and heal up so you can get back to being the best version of you that you can be. You've got a whole bunch of us here rooting for you.

Check with your auto insurance. I know mine gives me coverage on something like $2K worth of protective gear. Makes sense to me that State Farms would rather pay for my armor than my stitches.

If the offending driver is deemed to be completely liable, your injuries would be covered up to his policy limits under his medical liability coverage. His property damage coverage by all rights should include not only the Kawi, but your damaged riding gear. Despite your current condition, sounds like that was $2500 well spent.

In my region there are specialized motorcycle accident lawyers. I reckon your area is no exception.

My worry is that he either will have no insurance, or minimum liability-only coverage. He's eighty-eight years old, driving a late '90s Chevy Malibu or Impala. He may not have two nickels to rub together. Even if he has minimum liability coverage, I will only receive $6,700, which likely won't even cover all my medical co-pays and deductibles.
