I cut 4 1/4 inches off the shield today. It's much better, should have gone a full five. Wind starts right at the mouth. Buffeting has gone down considerably. I have to say its looks 100% better and the view from the seat feels right. Feel like I'm on my ST now with the shield down all the way.
Job came out perfect ( surprise to me ) looks like factory edges.
I used a jigsaw and then a vibrating sander with med than fine. I was going to sell it now its a keeper.

Cheers

which tools you use to cut / ground the plexiglass?

As mentioned, i used a jigsaw with a fine metal blade and sanded with a palm vibrating sander with med than fine paper. I used masking tape on both sides of the shield.

CIP57,
How tall are you? I just ordered the EX and have been researching the install and cut down. I'm 6'1" and trying to see about how much I may need to cut.

Gingersdaddy, I wouldn't think you would need to remove any at 6'1". I am 5'6 and the wind hits me in the eyes. At 7" taller I would think you'd be good as is. Suggest you install low close to headlight shell and then take it for a ride before doing any cutting.

Thanks, I'll try it as is, set low and see how it does.

Ok, so I got out today and tied the new EX shield out, even with in ear ear buds the noise was unbearable. I stood up on the pegs to get a feel for how much I may need to trim off. Came back and took 1 1/4" off. Still terrible noise. Took another 1" 1/4 off. Better but not quite there yet, but had to stop for the day. So I'm at 2 1/2" and 13 3/4" from the ign. to the top. When I stood up off the seat the last time it felt like maybe another 1 to 1 1/4" may need to come off.
I caught the wife in the front yard when I got back and threw her my phone for a couple of pic's.

Wow Im really surprised that you are having to cut that much off, but if memory serves me we seem to have the most satisfied riders with the top of the shield 9 to 10 1/2 inches above the ign . Ok looked thru some past threads and it was 8 1/2 to 10" above ign to top edge of shield.

Bike looks good btw...and you are not a little guy are you?

At any rate, when you get it where you are happy with it, measure to ign and let us know what that figure is.

Tilt it back instead of cutting it. I did that, huge help.

I'm trying to fine tune my NC deflector shield and I'm pretty close to my preference esp at freeway speeds

Disclaimer : this is how I set up my tilt on an empty private road and am only sharing my experience only and do not recommend it on public roads ..

Loosen the front knobs that set the angle of the shield and once you get up to about 50,60 or 70 mph use your left hand to change the tilt of the screen and try to find the position that you like at a given speed .. Lock the shield knobs to your liking ..

After trying to set up the shields on numerous bikes in the past, my assumption is that there will never be perfect setup for all conditions and each day is a different variable / riding condition .. Getting close is pretty good for me .. I feel that trying to block the wind AND reducing the buffeting/ helmet noise is a fine compromise and may not be possible,to get both spot on ..

I tried cutting taller shields on other bikes ONLY if they did not have the tilt function .. if you have the tilt function try adjusting tilt before chopping the shield as a basic starting point ..

The biggest problem is the final tilt may NOT go with the look you desire so ill be looking to replace the deflector with a tall puig in the near future and make some custom brackets to get the puig to tilt more ..

Cheers and good luck ..

No, not a little guy. When I look at the bike by itself, I think "That's a big bike" and then I see a picture with me on it and I'm like "That's a little bike". I have it tilted back to where I may have to kick the bottom out so I can tilt it back at the top without hitting the gauges.
