Rear view mirror upgrade
#21

I can see more OT in my future. I really dig that Fairing! I'm torn on the mirrors. Like was said. The stock round mirrors are very good. Nice view and go with the look of the Bike. But those CB1000R mirrors are pretty darn Sexy!!!

I believe the members of this CB1100 forum are my best friends, but Samurider is close second!

About those mirrors. For me they just look "period correct". Chrome/round says 60's or very early 70's and complement the look of the STOCK bike. Start to make some major changes to your bike and then other mirror shapes/finishes/styles will come into play that will complement the look perhaps better than the stock ones.

I would just say keep in mind that you have a ROUND headlamp that says 60's/very early 70's and depending on what shape mirrors you choose (say rectangular with sharp corners) that could scream 80's. This would be very confusing for us OLDER guys seeing a Led Zeppelin era headlamp and Flock of Sea Gulls decade mirrors on the same bike.

I happen to like the stock mirrors for a couple of reasons. They're well made. My bike is very mildly farkled and they don't look out of place. Plus those mirrors have never moved or vibrated one iota while riding for almost 10K miles. I have broad shoulders and the stems are fairly long and they help clear my shoulders even when wearing an armored jacket. Course, depending on your height that may not be needed and chrome seems to fall in and out of favor a lot.

Obviously making the bike your own is a very personal undertaking and something the CB platform actually makes very easy and almost encourages you to do. Lots of good ideas on this forum. Lots of good people. And lots of good looking bikes with aftermarket mirrors here as well. Whatever you do, post pics!!! Thumbs Up

Hey ya Frulk,
Thanks for the yen and yang balance regarding the upgrade of the rear view mirrors, I do agree that the chrome roundies are traditional and keep the bike in the retro time frame. I'll think more on it and just enjoy the bike for now.
My devoted Ducati friend in PA discovered this bike when it originally came out in 2013, he did researched and loved it. When a 2013 popped up at my local dealer last July 2015, the research and a thumbs up was already in place so I grabbed it.
I love the bike, I ride the twisties with a local sports bike club and can keep up with them (most of the time), the bike out performs my riding ability! Not bad for a older gal on a retro!

G'day and welcome, Lynn. Good to have you aboard.

While I'm a fan of the OEM mirrors, I've seen a CB with the CB500 black mirrors and thought they looked great.

Lynn,

Here is where the CB500 mirror swap started. I think I've sold several hundred sets of those mirrors over the last couple of years.

And here is where the rear plate clean up started.

Cheers darlin'.
