Face shield tinting recommendation
#1

Just before getting my new CB500F I purchased a closeout helmet from Revzilla, not realizing that tinted face shields for this helmet were no longer offered. I ordered some tinted film online but when the package arrived, this goofy looking, undersized, worthless item was in the box. I had to laugh.

Does anyone have a recommendation on where I can purchase a larger piece of tinted film that can cover most or all the face shield opening?

I would think any place that tints windows for cars could use a piece of scrap and cover it for you for nothing if you ask nicely

CB4ME: In years past, I took some of my cars to a local tinting shop to have the tinted film added to my sides and rear windows. With that said, here is my concerns you may (???) experience applying the tint to your visor:

- When I looked through the tinted window at an extreme acute (sharp) angle, I could see some distortion or waving caused by the tint (won't get into light refraction). I do not know if this effect could be noticed while you are using your helmet. Looking straight through the tinted visor should be fine and maybe there would not be an acute enough of an angle looking through the curve visor to see any noticeable distortion. Maybe you could hold the film tightly against your visor and see how it looks in different light conditions prior to applying the adhesive.

- My tinted film was not scratch resistant. My driver's side windows got pretty scratched-up from my wife hitting it while putting on her seatbelt.

- You can remove the tinted film from auto glass, but I wonder getting the film and adhesive off of the face visor would damage the visor? (You said that the tinted visors are not available for your helmet, but are replacement clear visors available in case?)

Again, I do not know anything I said would even apply.

I just looked into putting tinted film on my face shield. Talked to a guy that has done window tinting for about 20 years and is a avid motorcycle rider. He said that the plastic used for face shield off gasses. You can apply the film but after a period of time the off gas from the plastic will cause it to bubble. I asked him how he new this and he said he had tried it.

If a Transitions shield is available for your helmet, I'd advise getting it. Not cheap, but one of the best investments I've made to date. Tints up and down quickly based on sunlight, and crystal clear optical quality.

Transitions shield came free with my Bell helmet!!! I've had a Vemar helmet like his and their shields are not their best feature. Best thing is you don't have to carry along another shield for night riding.

Thanks for all the responses. I'm rethinking the whole thing and probably going to wear plain old sunglasses.

My vision changed after my motorcycle accident, pain meds and 50 pound weight loss, forcing me to get a new distance prescription. But my eyesight has improved over the last few weeks doing a lot of exercise and activities.I can now ride and drive fine without prescription glasses/sunglasses, able to read signs 200 ft away. Of course I could get prescription shades or transition lenses but I'd rather spend my money on motorcycle accessories. Eight mods on my month-old CB500F so far.

+1 to that. Some pictures of the new bike and mods, CB4ME? Or have I missed them?
