what am i looking at here?

it's probably something anybody who knows jack bout engines would recognize, but that ain't me. what is this in the picture i've marked?

Do you mean the hole about the size of a US quarter?

it looks a lot bigger than a quarter. on a standard cb1100 there's a plastic cover there, and behind that i guess is the air intake? but what this guy has there looks completely different, and the cover is gone. what is that he has installed?

OK you’re looking at something else. He’s taken the Honda air filter off, along with it’s cover and replaced it with individual filters for each intake. At least I think that’s what you call the fittings.

That's not a hole but a reflection on the throttle body.

Since the trophy sitting next to the bike says "Rats Hole" on it I'd surmise that you're looking at the Best of Show Rats Hole.

ah, i gotcha. so it's not a different part, just something's been added. what does that do for him? what effect does it have on the performance?
