Data Migration Is Starting
#1

Please be advised that we are starting the data migration from cb1100forum.con to cb1100forum.net.

We have taken a two-prong approach:

I focused on the Forum Configuration, Stability, and Ongoing Maintenance. We have a stable platform with plenty of bandwidth. Most maintenance tasks are scripted and running on a daily schedule. I complete manually the maintenance tasks that for whatever reason I felt needed a human to assess and take appropriate action. We have plenty of bandwidth and are operating on 35% total capacity for hosting infrastructure and telco connectivity at peak times.

Mostafa has create a BOT that will scrape the Thread, Metadata, Text, and Pictures from cb1100forum.com\forum and then create a User Account, Thread, Metadata, Text, and Pictures on cb1100forum.net\forum.

The User Account the BOT creates is identical to the the user account used to create the threat but also include _imp designation to show it was an imported account. After we are finished with the data migration, I will try to merge the “new” user account with the “old” user account so all Members can own their threads.

Now for the bad news:

Some of the pictures, attachments, or links referenced in the prior Threads are dead or the database is corrupted. The bottom line is that if they are not accessible in the Old Forum, they cannot be brought over to the New Forum.

The Old Forum has not been maintained and has some database issues. We will do the best we can.

Finally, it appears that the Old Forum is under attack or has been compromised. Note the number of guest users reported to be on the site reviewing data. It causes more stress on the platform. When you couple lack of maintenance, bandwidth, and cyber issues, it creates issues we have to manage through during migration.

We are doing everything we can to be respectful of Members using the Old Forum and those of you using the New Forum. We will do everything we can to make sure we do not crash both!

All changes to this Forum has been placed on hold pending the completion of the data migration. It will take weeks, possibly months, depending on how frequent cb1100forum.com goes down.

If you have any questions, please ask. Thanks for your patience as we make the best of a difficult situation. David

Awesome work RD!! Thanks so much for the effort.

1270 guests on the old board. Something is looking at data I would imagine.

It is truly my pleasure to serve the Members. I have benefitted tremendously from joining the Forum.  I need to try to balance the scales. I want others to be able to leverage the wisdom, insight, humor, and goodness of the CB1100 Forum Community just like I did. David

RE: Data Migration Update

The Data BOT and the CB1100FORUM.NET are holding up well under the stress of the data migration. Neither have failed. See Thread and Post counts as of this post:

New Threads Added: 6,326
New Posts Added:127,028
Faux Users Added to Enable Migration: 2,269

We are not planning to bring over any of the Threads in the Announcement Section of the old Forum. Factoring Announcement Threads out of the equation, we have roughly 15,800 Threads to Port. We are approximately 40% complete.

To reduce the possibility of causing a script failure, we have placed on hold any other Forum refinement that could affect the database structure. You are encouraged to continue to create new Threads and Posts and read everything which interests you, but the Header Update, Thread Cleanup, and other changes will need to wait. More to follow on that later.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and finds some time to ride your CB1100.

David

Thanks for your exemplary work on this! I'd hate to think where we'd be without your invaluable contributions.

You are very kind. If this Forum ceases to be, it will be because the Members have decided to bring it to a close. I will not let technology mishaps and administrative matters bring an end to something I believe is worth preserving for the next generation of CB1100 riders. Not on my watch.

There are better mechanics and tuners on this Forum than me. Peterbaron and The Ferret immediately come to mind. Cormanus, Whoops, Magarider are experts, too. There are a long list of others. But I believe all would agree with me that with how the CB1100 engine is tuned, the gearing of the transmission, the quality of the materials, the air-cooled motor, and other attributes of the CB1100 give us every reason there to believe that the CB1100 (any vintage) can roll for another 50 years with basic maintenance and mature riders. It falls to us to train the next set of owners. Honda wants those folks to buy newer bikes, most of which have inferior engineering, in my opinion.

I would like to believe the Members of this Forum are not only working to help one another now but also the folks who will continue to ride our motorcycles when we are all in CB1100 Heaven.  Smile

I know I have already started hoarding a few of the most likely to fail parts for my motorcycle. That said, I believe changes in technology will enable us to source, print, fabricate, or modify parts to keep these great motorcycles rolling for a couple of more generations, easily. However, without this Forum and the 200 or so active Members, the parts will do me no good if I cannot get them properly installed and maintained.

We continue to pull data in small batches and upload. To the best of my knowledge, the only people we have impacting are hackers who tend to focus attacks on cb1100forum.com between 12:00 - 3:00 AM. We will continue to be conservative and respectful to limit the impact we have on Forum Members still using the old site. Have a great weekend. David
