RE: Staintune Exhaust

Staintunes are flowing again from PiratesLair, received mine at lunch today, rode back to work.
I think it sounds about right.
At idle and with load while accelerating has decent throaty sound.
At highway speed( say 55mph, 3K RPM) with no load on the engine, you can barely tell its on.
I seem to get a little gurgle when letting up on the gas, or flipping the throttle around idle RPM.
Hope to have a video up with a few redline shifts since have not seen or heard any like that yet.

Like most all others have said: not too loud, but loud enough, nice growl. Conservative smaller "stock" pipe look. Also really glad I purchased this exhaust!

That is a great video. Thumbs Up Being able to liston to stock and then Staintune really shows the difference better that the verbal descriptions. I can't swing the $830 right now, but I sure like the Staintune a lot. Exclamation

Thanks for posting the video.Thanks

RE: Staintune Exhaust

Ordered mine from Pirate's Lair Saturday, and it arrived Monday ($830 + free shipping). Simply magnificent. Idle finally sounds like it's got some proper guts. A noticeable difference in torque off the line. The sound accelerating... oh baby. I want to hang on to every gear just a little bit longer. With the stock muffler, anything over 4,200 RPM felt a bit hollow and strained—like the bike was saying, "Oh please oh please oh please just SHIFT ALREADY?!"

The sound is bold (and imho glorious) without ever crossing over into obnoxious. Not the brappy, slightly mental, Bonneville salt flats sound some people prefer (also a very cool sound), but exactly what I was hoping for! Excited

I just picked a Staintune from Pirates lair, the Staintune installation FAQ references using a high-temp RTV to make a seal, I was curious if anyone here has done so and if so what RTV product was used?

I don't think you need RTV. The fit is very, very snug. Use the clamp and you should be good to go.

No RTV needed, Staintune clamp is a beast.

It helps seal and makes it easier to disassemble. I used this on my Staintune junction. this:http://www.permatex.com/products-2/product-categories/gasketing/gasket-makers/permatex-ultra-copper-maximum-temperature-rtv-silicone-gasket-maker-detail

I did go ahead and install without sealant, seems OK on a test ride. If any leaks develop I'll try the Permatex copper. Thanks for all the info!

RE: Staintune Exhaust

I just noticed that as of May 26th, Staintune exhausts are available directly from their website, shipping globally.
And now for the really interesting part: The 2013 CB1100 pipe for $636 in AUD, with an $80 dollar shipping fee to Pennsylvania.

Right now, $716 AUD = $671 USD. Could this really be???

This sounds too good to be true. I'm thinking any credit card used would charge an exchange fee or something like that.
It's certainly tempting enough to investigate further...
