Tripod, I put about 500 miles on my Staintune equipped bike this weekend. However, I always wear ear plugs on the highway unless I know I won't be at highway speeds for very long. I could still hear the Staintune with the plugs in, but it wasn't much louder than the wind noise or whooshing sound you still hear with ear plugs in. I could see the exhaust being a little wearing on a longer trip without ear plugs, but then again the wind noise to the helmet would be much louder, so I'm honestly not sure what it would be like on a longer trip without ear protection. I have taken the bike on shorter highway jaunts without ear plugs and didn't mind the exhaust sound, but then again, that was maybe 10 miles or so at 55-60 mph.

In any case, in my opinion you are crazy to take longer trips without hearing protection, so the exhaust is plenty quiet with the ear plugs in, more like a background sound than a drone.

As an aside, the worst part of the trip was that I had a 40 mph headwind on most of the way up, and a 30 mph headwind on the way back (the wind shifted by the time I rode back). It was just brutal. I did get a hell of an upper body workout, however. Dodgy Never again without some kind of wind screen, that's for sure!

Man, how I remember the drone from my Vance and Hines 4 into 1 on my GS 1100E on long rides.. Made me swear off replacement pipes. Kept the stockers on my Nighthawk, kept the stockers on my 2 FZs, kept the stockers on my ST, will keep the stocker on my CB. Ahhh quiet! Lol

Wait I did replace the stock pipes on my Triumph Bonneville, with Triumphs Off Road pipes, but the Bonnie off road pipes were just barely louder than the stockers ...what a waste of money ...certainly didn't sound like a proper Bonneville. lol

I put the Triumph off road pipes on my Bonneville and had the same experience. It still sounded like a sewing machine. Zero soul and if I didn't tell you I don't think anyone would notice the mufflers were changed.

I was a little apprehensive about the sound levels when ordering the Staintune. But at 50mph and above in 5th gear, exhaust noise is nearly masked by wind noise. No problems at all.

Thanks for answering my previous questions, everyone. I went ahead and ordered the Staintune from Pirates' Lair. Received it promptly, installed in about 15 minutes and sounds wonderful! Not too loud, but loud enough. Absolutely no droning, at least to my ears. Really glad I purchased this exhaust.

Ordered mine, from pirateslair.net, in stock, received in three days, easy install in less than 30 minutes.

Like most all others have said: not too loud, but loud enough, nice growl. Conservative smaller "stock" pipe look. Also really glad I purchased this exhaust!

RE: Staintune Exhaust

I have a few hundred miles on my Staintune, and there's a nice side benefit.

My wife and I do a lot of back country roads and generally keep the RPMs low. With the stock pipes, we'd get right on top of folks on the side of the road before they'd take notice, usually with a startled look that we were so close. With the Staintune, that's not the case anymore. Folks look up while we are still a bit off. Yet the noise is not at a "disturbing the peace" level, just loud enough for people to take notice.

Hi Bill-
Real nice video. I'm on the fence and I think the vid helped w/ my decision. Do you notice a performance increase? Has the sweet spot between 4-6,000rpms torque changed? I love just cruising in 3rd punch'n it in this zone. I may have missed it, but what's the best price for this? Easy install? sorry for all the ?'s. Oh, also from Buffalo, living in NC.
ThanksExcitedExcited

Thaks Darpo. Buffalo too - Nice! Best price many of us have found is $830 http://pirateslair.net/Staintuneall.htm I've not had the chance to get her opened up to answer your HP questions. Will do ASAP. Within ohers staintune posts others have identified a 4 HP addition. I'm hoping for the same or close...
