GP Short pipe on a 2014 CB1100?
#1

Forgive my ignorance but would I need a pc5 if I remove the OEM Exhaust on my 2014 CB1100 and replace it with a GP style exhaust? Long story short, my bike is so quiet that I've already had over 4 people merge over on me since I bought the bike (3 days ago)...never had that issue with my R1 which had a louder exhaust.
I personally like the GP short pipes... they look sleek imho and are minimalist...which I'm also a fan of. Thoughts?

Solid orange helmet and a hi-vis jacket. But if you want to talk about pipes... I don't know of any riders here who have installed a short pipe. A few have put on a Yoshimura RSCV full race exhaust. It's a little louder, but not much. At least one did an ECU re-flash with the new exhaust system.

IMHO, I think anyone who 'needs' loud exhaust as a defense in traffic needs to step their game up.
My solution for cagers that want my lane too? Let'em have it, cause I'm already GONE.

Oh it's more of an aid than a need... I already pack shattered ceramic from spark plugs in my pocket as well as steel bearings, ride aggressively (in a defensive manner) and keep my head on a swivel. I've just found that revving tends to scare people back into their lane. The rest of my...methods..are for those that decide to get a bit frosty.
I dont wanna take the " room temperature challenge" because people don't look for bikers lol
Btw, the GP exhaust I'm looking at is from Radiant cycles. I'm hearing mixed reviews. Not sure if it will lean the bike out too much or not....

If this is the unit you are looking for, it would probably be rather loud, especially if you removed the baffle or the fiberglass packing. But, it is rather cheap, so it might be worth an experiment to see if it gives you and your bike more street "presence".

Another forum member, x(why)z, was looking for something similar, but his choice didn't get much love from most forum members.

Who cares what forum members think. Get what you want. I purchased an 8" (I think) Delkevic stubby. A little fat but short and "minimalist-ish". Gives a little more bark but nothing crazy. I'm pretty sure you can put on whatever slip-on you want and she still won't be loud without doing a whole system to remove the cat.

My wife put one of those on her CTX700N and loves it. As long as you leave the cat in place, you should not need to change anything. The fuel injection system is closed loop and can make up for most of what we do.

Actually, the CB1100 does not have a true "closed loop" system. That would require a wide band 02 sensor, and the CB only has a narrow range 02 Lambda Sensor which only affects the bike during the warm-up stage and just off idle. The CB system is purely to control emissions, not to adapt to exhaust or intake changes. It has little to no affect during mid band or wide open throttle driving. Most other driving parameters are controlled by the ECU programming and input from temp & throttle position sensors, etc.

That said, you are not likely to run dangerously lean just by adding a slip-on.

I’ve got the Delkevic 14” slipon. It’s louder than stock but not too loud. I can get drivers attention with it. I rev just to let them know I’m there, not trying to make them move for me. No matter what, I’ll find a way around. As for cagers drifting into your space, they do it anyway, you just always have to be on the lookout for it.

Thanks for the input! If not a Power Commander V... What would you recommend I use with modding the exhaust in the manner I plan on modding it?
