I use a small [url=https://www.amazon.com/GIVI-Magnetic-Tank-EA106B-liter/dp/B01AUMVME0?SubscriptionId=AKIAILSHYYTFIVPWUY6Q&tag=duckduckgo-ffab-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B01AUMVME0]GIVI bag - ear plugs and garage openers go into the small pocket, phone slides under the transparent cover, everything else (flat kit, camera etc) goes to the middle compartment. Also, works great as an over-the-shoulder bag. Tank scratches are inevitable though Sad

I run 2 different ones, a small Tourmaster for around town running/day trips

and a larger Tourmaster with matching soft bags (like Frulk's) and small Cortech tail pack for trips

I stopped into my local multi-brand dealer on the way home a few weeks ago to grab some chain lube. Perusing their used section, they had a '14 CB1000 black. It only had 1200 miles, but judging from the fittings, it had probably been ridden hard stored outdoors for at least part of its short life. The tank finish was also badly hazed from the obvious use of a tank bag - very noticeable on the black finish. They were asking $8k for it - very surprising to me that they didn't go to the effort to take some polishing compound to that tank. Fifteen minutes of work would have brought it back to perfect.

But I'm not a motorcycle salesman. I am, however an anal-retentive weirdo, a detailer, and hate any kind of paint imperfections. As clean as my bike was when I got it, I did find a few fine scratches on my tank. I was able to rub them out with no problems, and found the paint to be pretty soft compared to other bike brands I've owned. Easily susceptible to scratches, but they're as easy to buff out if not deep.

Coincidentally, my office is next door to Nelson Rigg's headquarters, and, being the only guy in the parking lot with a motorcycle, they've become good friends. Due to the stuff I haul back and forth to work, my large Givi trunk was transferred from my BMW to the CB. But, on my Bonneville, I have one of their expandable Commuter model tail bags. It takes up the rear portion of the seat, and I have the straps running under it, and zip-tied together to keep it secure and in one place. Nothing touches the paint, and I've got expandable storage that can hold anything short of a lap top.

I don't use a tank bag often, but I recently purchased the Cortech 2.0 and have been very happy with it so far. The magnets are very strong and the material on the bottom of the bag seems adequate enough to avoid any scratching. We'll see.

I also like having the removable map pocket on the top. It doubles as an holder for my interstate iPass.

That's a nice bag deltamark. Just be sure and lift the magnets and don't drag them off the tank, and if you do remove it, wipe the bottom and magnets off before re-installation.
