Wow, didn't know that, the noise is still there it took longer for it to warm up before the noise came back. I'm just going to switch to the synthetic 10w-30 and call it a day. If it blows up it's covered.

I'll tell you a quick story, my 1982 GS1100 had been sitting for a few years, brought it into the the dealer to get a carb syn and cleaning. When i went to pick it up they told me the motor was shot that they could not get it past 3000rpm's but that they would buy it off me for $500.00/// Rode the bike home pulled the carbs with my buddy to my NOT surprise they left all 4 main jets sitting in the bowl. Back than these bikes where worked to make 1/4 mile bikes once the crank was welded and the owner was a track guy. I will leave it to your imagination what a did after that.
I good mechanic you can trust is gold.

Yeah ride my bike to work today and the noise is there when I got to work. Cold or just warming up it is sounding normal. Ride it and get that noise again... so tonight the 30 weight is going in. There has to be a better explanation.

Fleetwood, I agree with the others find out from your dealer. What the they were smoking and to share it with everyone...

How about a bad or intermittent injector. Have seen 4 and 6 cyl carbureted bikes with sync so far out you thought the engine was coming apart. Has anyone experiencing the noise tried releasing the clutch while it was happening ?

I did Bob, clutch in out, bike in gear on center stand.

I want to thank CIP57 and HondaJon for slapping me up a bit and making me see the light, Tonight I will be removing that 10w40 from my bike and putting in 10w30.

So strange how initial start up and warm up things sound good then go for a little ride and you get the noise again...

D,
I would change the filter, you never know if there is a partial restriction or the filter sat out in the shop opened for a length of time. They come wrapped in plastic to prevent anything from getting inside. Let the bike run on the center stand not the side stand for at least 5-10 minutes to let the oil cooler oil mix with the new oil. Waiting for a Thumbs Up

I agree that the bike is quieter with 10/30 vs. 10/40 from my direct experience. On my first change the shop was out of 10/30 so I put in 10/40. It was noisier so I dumped it for the right weight quickly

Having said that, I cannot believe that terrible hammering noise coming from your bike is due to a minor oil viscosity difference. I sure hope I am wrong and the change fixes it.

BTW: It sucks your dealer service people are lying buffoons. I would contact Honda USA in Cali and let them know how badly they blew it.

Dumping the oil tomorrow, I have the day off, the sound is just plain weird. I'll ask my dealer tomorrow why they think they fixed the problem when it still makes the sound. Man if I had found my jets in the bowl I would have flipped! I rebuilt the carbs on the rebel but that was really simple and only 1 carb. As far as Fuel Injection goes, I'm clue less lol all I know is it atomizes fuel with the air to burn lol
