Getting ready for the riding season greeted by bad sounds....
#71
Ok, so I heard this noise yesterday and the day before. Had the 4000 mile oil change on Sunday, done about 250 miles since then. If I gave it just a hair of throttle and bring it up 100RPM from idle it went away completely. It doesn't speed up in frequency, it just disappears. I've been riding around and it's happened maybe 3 times now at stop lights(I ride/commute every day). Ride to the next light and it isn't there. Stop to park and it hasn't done it yet. Never noticed it before the oil change and it's very very infrequent. I'm not really stressing it, I'll let you guys know if anything changes. If it keep up I'll go talk to my mechanic/dealer. I don't know what oil the put in, I trust him and didn't ask.

Was your sound or noise the same as in the second video link I shared in the first post?

Here is the link again. This is after warm up and a short ride.

If there was an adjustment problem from the dealer when you brought it in for service you would have heard it as soon as you started the bike on initial warm up. If there was something out of adjustment it would not be intermittent. I had the same problem and its in one of my threads.

When i did my first oil change i heard the same lower end noise. If it continues when you get it back i strongly suggest that you change the oil & filter with Honda 10-30 full syn.

I read your first post and from what I read, you had a knock right from the start. My knock or strange noise did not appear until after I rode the bike. When the bike is sitting warming up everything sounds normal. Take the bike for a short ride and then come back and don't shut down but dismount and listen I have that sound evident in that linked video.

I did that twice. The second time I let it idle it also sounded just fine and did not start making the noise until AFTER a short ride.

I would think if it was evident at a start and warm up idle it would be one thing. But to have the bike sound normal with a start, warm up and idle then go for a ride and have the noise present is another thing.

Hmmm, my dealer heard the noise after 3mins of warm up? I'll let you know if they find anything wrong and pass it on to you.

I am thinking my dealership wasn't listening for the right thing. Saturday will tell when I pick it up and do what I have planned..

http://youtu.be/yLD2KCjNGyY Yup, sounds the same. Doesn't happen right at start up. Actually, doesn't happen often, didn't do it today yet. First time I noticed it I was splitting between two cars and heard it reflecting off them.

It is interesting how there are more with this issue now. Even more interesting, I never heard it last year, only this spring after taking it out of storage...

Yea, my dealer tech was saying it might be normal noise. I asked him why others don't have this sound, plus it didn't make this sound before service. He couldn't give me an answer.

Wonder if any of our overseas brothers and sisters have ever had this issue?

I heard a similar noise after my first oil change to Amsoil 10w40 full synthetic.

Dumped the oil after a quick run and went with Honda HP4S Full Synthetic 10W - 30. NOISE WAS GONE AND HAVE NEVER HEARD IT AGAIN.

My guess is that the oil passages on the CB are very small and specifically designed for 10W-30.

I wonder if my dealer used 10w-30, i says it in the receipt, but they pumped the oil from a 55 gallon drum. So idk what brand, weight, or even long it's sat in the barrel. I think next time I'll just change my own oil.
So the synthetic is pretty good stuff, I thought you couldn't run synthetic with wet clutches?
NOT TRYING TO START AN OIL WAR, just inquiring information for future reference
