Cannot attach Helmet to the bike helmet holder.

A few days earlier, I saw a thread posted by a member who was unable to attach his helmet (equipped with the European" ratchet style) to his bike, however, I cannot locate this thread anymore so I am starting a new one.

This thread mentioned of not being able to attach the helmet to the bike as it is equipped with the "European ratchet" style strap rather than the DOT approved "D" ring.

Peter Barron has the solution and gave me one "T" adaptor to allow me to attach my helmet to the bike. (my new HJC modular RPHA helmet is also equipped with the ratchet style strap).
Peter has been using the "T" adaptor for quite a while and is happy with it.

Since then, I modified a "T" bracket ($0.50) from local hardware store (trim the "T" a bit) to do the same job as per attached picture.

I stopped leaving my helmet on the attached helmet lock after I saw multiple posts on a local forum about people either having their helmets stolen, or finding "presents" in them. Yes, those kinds of presents.

Now it wither comes with me, or I put it in my top box.

Wow! Never heard of or even thought of getting a "present" but now you've got me thinking. I never like leaving my helmet with the bike to begin with, that's one more reason to take it with me.

I guess it depends where you live. If you're in the Bay area, with so much homelessness, one would be at high risk of this happening.

I try to never leave my helmet on the bike, but when I must, I only do so in a "safe" area and make sure it's not open side up...leaving room for temptation for sh*t heads

I had a helmet cut off the lock. I am sure it was another rider who had an impromptu passenger and took mine, as I was in motorcycle parking. It was a nightmare because I was 25 miles from home with strict helmet laws.

A helmet lock like that is just asking for some lowrent individual to leave things you don't want to touch in your helmet. I usually just put it on the mirror and fasten the D-ring around the handlebar, but if I want to really lock it, I made up a thin stainless steel cable with a padlock that will attach the jacket and helmet to the bike, but, nothing is really foolproof. My helmet is a well-used HJC full face, not really a theft target.

On bikes that didn't come with a helmet lock, I've installed a license-mounted lock like the one Alain has. After locking the helmet to it, rather than leaving the helmet dangling, I'd perch it over the license plate, so that the open side (where your head goes) was not facing up. I figured that leaving the open side exposed invited people to use it like a trash can and drop something into it as they walked by. with the shiny side up, someone would have to actually grab it and flip it over to do something stupid to it.
