A cooling jacket?! Yessir... Lemmethink: active cooling could be either via (a) evaporation or (b) Peltier elements. They actually do sell cooled "desert gear" here - under the brand name "Hyperkewl". Basically these are foam padded vests - dip it in water and evaporation will supposedly cool you for a couple hours. Peltiers would require electricity and additional cooling fins (to radiate heat from the hot side) - I can imagine something along the lines of a dinosaur with dorsal fin for that purpose. Would make a rather interesting-looking full-body protective suit Big Grin

Been working on a more "universal" mounting. Pictures below show the end result Big Grin

(1) This is the prototype of a 45 degree stand, to be glued to the backside of the display module if someone wants to mount the gadget on the - say - brake fluid reservoir. Will be included as a "standard accessory" in the same color as the display housing. Credit goes to [url=http://cb1100forum.com/forum/member.php?action=profile&uid=4724]Max.

(2) What it looks like from the side (please ignore the black color - final version will be printed and painted in matching color to the display).

(3) The new, slimmer display module can be mounted on just about any flat surface. Brain module connects via the flat black phone cable. Display can be rotated 180 degrees - i.e. cable can be either at the top or the bottom.

I'm quite happy with these mounting options. Considering Gadget MkII "done" Excited

Now printing more housing samples to work on best surface finish - looks like that black housing will look best if printed in black, silver housing printed in gray filament. Can't use metal filled plastic due to electric conductivity...

Super Csory. Instead of glue, consider 3M VHB grey adhesive foam tape. This way it can be removed if the rider wishes and without damaging any surfaces (e.g. handlebar hydraulic reservoirs). Furthermore, with proper surface preparation (e.g. cleaned with cleaning alcohol), the VHB won't fail. Definitely test first with your 3D-printed material.

GoldOxide: Of course - what I meant by "glueing" is double-sided tape (thick enough to absorb bumps from mold-in text on hydro fluid reservoir cover). However, if someone knows in advance that his/her specific installation requires the angled stand, I can glue it to the screen with epoxy resin and paint the seam over. The material I use for printing is plain, simple ABS plastic manufactured by Verbatim. Never had any issues with those.

Would like to see...

...if there is a "real" interest in this gadget-thingy.

Assuming that I'll have to hand-build each unit individually, how many of you would be interested in getting one for USD 100 incl. s/h? The package would consist of the display+brain module (black or silver), 45 degree stand (optionally pre-installed), wiring, and rotary encoder for setup.

I will update with a final post showing the last version (no functional changes, just a bunch of cosmetic tweaks), but would not go into the trouble of creating an installation/owners manual unless there is some actual interest Big Grin)

Please send me a PM if you're interested.

Mods: please let me know if this is inappropriate to post such requests in this section.

Let’s see what response you get, Csory. If there’s interest we’ll move it to the “Members Products” section.
