Another Dang Seat Dilema
#1

So I traded the stock seat for a Sargent, 20% better but still looking. Been reading through all the posts and only slightly closer to a decision. So...here's my 'dilema': The crunched up crotch and constant feeling of sliding forward in the seat (area.) My favored position is few inches (about a fist) back from the tank/forward edge of the seat.

The swoop/scooped/lower seating in driver(?) position seems to be the issue. I never had that problem with my CB550 or the CB750, so I'm thinking the most 'retro' styles are what I should be looking at, i.e. Daytona Cozy (tall). Maybe even the Tiros K?

I've already looking at having Sargent re-do the seat, and even a good, local guy who can do seats. Still, I'm looking at all options.

I would appreciate anyone's similar experience and/or opinion.

Incidently, the Sargent seat will soon be for sale.

Yea- a breadbox seat is probably more your style.

I'd suggest you to look at K&H's website and 'build your own'..as it will be more comfortable than stock and you can pick height, color, type of material, trim.

Will need to use a translator, like google, but find the style you want, then pick the options, and Mr T can order it for you.

I got a used K&M Tall seat from a forum member and I am loving it. I hated the stock seat and went to a Corbin which I like okay. This K&M has much more padding, yet it supports nicely and has that "Bread loaf" shape that looks so nice on the bike. I'm a fan.

Been reading through the posts, some going back to 2013 and here's the questions:

1. Seat height - some different numbers on this, and granting that slight changes may have been made over the years, the last few days research gives me this:
-Tiros K (leather) 805mm
-KandH tall 813mm
-Daytona Cozy tall 795mm
-stock seat (for a 2013) 765mm

Anyone have more accurate height numbers? The posts indicate some differences.

2. So if we are talking only 30+/- mm, the difference in riding comfort must be more along the lines of the wider seat? Generally speaking. Foot pegs, risers, and foam types are another topic.

A number of posts have discussed this and/or reached a similar conclusion, but they are mostly from some years ago. I sure would appreciate an updated response based upon 2020 info & experience.

3. Anyone adapt a 70's / 80's CB seat to the new base plate? Just thinking...

I can't give measurements but...
I am 5'7" and 30" inseam. I could not flat foot on the OEM seat without stretching and standing tall. Same with the Corbin but because the front of the seat is narrow, I could scoot forward and almost flat foot. The K&M Tall seat is taller and not so narrow at the front, so I can't flat foot no matter what I do. But I can still comfortably plant at stops and haven't had any occasions to fear a topple as I used to have on my KLR and it's taller stance.
The interesting thing about the K&M is that it soaks up bumps in a way that the other seats never did. It is soft, yes, but it almost feels like it has springs built in. It might for all I know.

I'm going with the 70's style CB reproduction seat cover TCBronson shared with his post. Awesome!

So the next question is the seat foam; looking at options, the Vintage CB750 forum has interesting suggestions. One is to 'bevel' out the foam and install a gel pad...interesting.

Another discussion is the air holes/pockets in the original seats for butt-bone relief. I'm going to assume that was due to the technology at the time, todays foam options do not include the holes / air pockets?

Regarding firm & 'hardness' of the foam, I'm searching and open to suggestions. Thinking firm (not hard) is better for most of us gray-hairs.
