Just got back from a ride in the Sierras with my 5 speed 2013 standard and it performed flawlessly. Once we hit the highways we were cruising 80 to 80 to 85 for long stretches and I was never wanting for another gear. Vibration to me is minimal its the wind blast (and I have a screen and an extender) that is the main discomforting aspect of cruising at high speed and thats mainly because I dont wear earplugs which will probably change real soon!

Agreed. I have no problems with vibes running distances on the highway at 80 to 85. Of course, everybody is different. I have purchased grip puppies to install, but not for vibes but to increase the size for more comfort. I'm used to the 1" bars on my Bonnie. As for a 6th gear, don't miss it on the 1100. My CBR300R has 6 gears but it is needed on the thumper at highway+ speeds.

Just pony up for a 6-spd '14 DLX or '17 EX. You get your red UJM, greater fuel-tank capacity, and smooth freeway sailing.
Done.

A few weeks ago I ran into a group of older guys in town for a track event, all on 1000cc supersports. The CB spent a great deal of time at 112 that day . . . the vibrations didn't bother me at all
Haha, problem solved!!

I had a 2013, changed the gearing as much as was practical, but it wasn't enough. So I sold it when the 6-speed 2014s came out, and bought a 2014 Standard, and now have a 2017.
If the vibration bothers you, I'd definitely recommend finding a 2014. I've seen 2014 standards in the same $5000-$6000 range as the 2013s. I sold both of mine, with less than 10k miles for $5200 and $5500.
Not sure why but I prefer the "red" color as opposed to the black so trying to find a 2014 DLX near Colorado. Anyone have a good idea what I "should" be paying for one? And if anyone has a clean/low miles 2014 DLX please PM me.

I took some grip puppies (foam grips) off another bike I had, and put them on the CB.
Now I honestly don't notice any vibe, and I wonder if the vibe was just in comparison to the rest of the rev range being so smooth.
Mine is a 6 speed.
That's really interesting, there is another thread on here with a poll of which models "typically" had a vibration and the 6 speed was a much lower percentage (which makes some sense). Based off all these responses it seems like it's fairly normal to have a stronger vibration between 4-5k but then minimizes above and below that.

I almost never see 2014 Deluxes for sale. The tanks for 2013 and 2014 Standards are interchangeable. I just put a black 2014 tank on my 2017. Didn't care for the red, but I'm in the minority on that.

Crazyirv: Ear plugs are essential equipment for any sane motorcyclist. If nothing else read [url=https://motorbikewriter.com/loud-motorcycle-helmet/]this article. Riding for 2 hours at 30 mph you're going risk permanent hearing damage. I haven't ridden nearly as much as many on this forum but I have low-level tinnitus to which my riding must have contributed. Some helmets may be quieter than others, but none of them will save you from long-term hearing damage.
pekingduck have I missed the photo of the new tank?
eddi0 VLJ is right. And, if you see a DLX anywhere, don't procrastinate. They're as rare as rocking horse faecal matter and get snapped up.

Getting back to your question about other bikes that have a similar retro look to the CB1100 for you to consider, how about taking a look at the Yamaha XSR900? I saw one the other day in vintage yellow/black/white (2016 model) with a matching tail piece on the seat, and it stopped me in my tracks. Might be at the upper limit of your price range unless you get lucky, but something to think about if you haven't already.

On my 2013 standard, changed the front sprocket to 19 tooth. Dropped rpm by about 250 to 275 at 65 mph. Less than $30.00 and an hours work. Plenty of info here about the swap details ,best money spent yet , also grip puppies.

Thanks and yes, Grip Puppies are going to go on regardless as OEM grips are also pretty narrow. If I can't find a DLX in my price range I'll do this.
