Do you have the name, John?

I once owned a water-cooled Suzuki GT750 ('Kettle'). Suzuki GB (here in the UK) competed for The Maudes Trophy (Google it) by riding their three main 'bikes, GT750, GT550 and GT380 three times round the coast of Britain. To do that mileage, they fitted huge handmade alloy tanks for their machines. A short time after, I enquired of Suzuki GB, what happened to the alloy tank for the GT750? I managed to purchase it - it held about 8 or 9 gallons! I sprayed it red to match the rest of the 'bike and it was FANTASTIC! I only had to stop a few times to refuel on my trip to the South of France in 1976. And boy! did it look good. Big Grin

If only I knew who made them for Suzuki... Rolleyes

... and of course if you commission an alloy tank it can be designed around the standard CB11 fuel pump & filler cap so there would be no additional expense for installation.

Many thanks, John. They're actually in another country... Wales! Not that far away though - about three hours. But getting a handmade, bespok item ain't gonna be cheap... probably about what Samurider is charging for his Whitehouse tanks. Undecided

Can a CB1100 engine be run with fuel supplied only by gravity, or MUST the fuel pump be connected?

The reason I ask is that I have identified a source of CB1100-fit fuel tanks that are look-alike CB750, with gravity fuel taps. The kicker is that they are £75 (unpainted) compared to Samurider's Whitehouse ones, at £1,600 (unpainted)!!

I'll check the Workshop Manual tomorrow to see if I can elucidate any info there, but I thought I'd ask you more knowledgeable guys first.

So if the CB1100 engine will happy run WITHOUT the fuel pump, I could be onto something... Celebrate

Sorry Barry, the answer is no.

The CB1100 is a fuel injected engine which requires a constant fuel pressure of around 50psi at idle (under vacuum), rising to ~57psi at full throttle.

That said, the engine does not need to use the original in-tank fuel pump, you could use an external pump as long as it delivered the same pressure.
I should have also mentioned that the in-tank fuel pump incorporates a fuel pressure regulator, hence the external pump would have to be internally regulated or use an in-line regulator on the supply line.

As well as fuel level sensor

You're absolutely right, Nine... I wanted to visit a motorhome repair place in North Wales, but it was verboten! Sad

Yes, John - it's been a Principality of England since the 1280s...
