Interesting fact about Indian Scout
#1
New Rider magazine came today. Featured the new Indian Scout among others. What I found interesting about the report was the dyno charts/ results.

The horsepower and torque curves of the Scout very nearly mirrors our CB 1100s. Very linear power curves resulting in 85.2 HP@ 7800 rpms and 64.4 ft lbs of torque @ 5900.

I would think that would be a very fun bike to ride, since the CB is such a joy to ride.

Interesting, no?

Definitely strong similarities here, although the peak 84 HP for the CB1100 comes on at 7300 RPM and the peak torque of 66 ft-lb comes on at 5800 RPM. Together these would suggest the CB1100 might be ever so slightly faster off the line given the similarity of their weights.

Another one of your observant catches!

Sparky and I test rode a Scout last year in Ocala, FL. Overall the Scout was a fine ride. Handling was very nimble and light, much better than any cruiser I'd ever ridden before. Engine was a jewel with plenty of low end pull and quite smooth. The seat was comfy for me but Sparky thought it a torture device. Only thing I did not care for was the typical feet forward and awkward cruiser riding position.

There is no way this bike comes close to our CB in ride, handling or comfort however. Considering the cost difference (discounted CB's compared to 11K for a Scout) the CB is an amazing bargain.

I rented a Scout for a day ride out of San Fran as part of my bachelor party, did over 500 miles. The Scout is a pretty sweet machine! That said, the only other cruiser I've ridden is my buddy's Victory Vegas and its massive 1604cc engine... heaps of tugboat torque off the line but feels asthmatic by what seems like 4K RPMs. This is not so with he Scout, where its power and torque characteristics feel pretty similar to our CB.

The liquid cooled vtwin is more rhythmic than the typical HD "potato-potato" and feels much more athletic. Even though I had heard how great the motor was prior to riding, I still felt the acceleration was not as strong as the CB. The transmission is expectedly more clunky and a bit wider in gearing, though the engine is responsive regardless of engine speed.

I will say, even having the Scout equipped with a pretty large windscreen, I found the CB to be a more comfortable long-distance traveler. The Scout's seat is very attractive but doesn't provide the rider with any room to adjust, locking your butt into a little pocket that seems to put pressure on your tail bone.

Overall, I really liked the Scout. If I were ever planning to get a cruiser it would probably be at the top of my list. That said, I just prefer the more upright seating position that the CB affords, which seems to more naturally accommodate spirited riding.

One of the nice things about Indian is they give a $1000 off to veterans.

I was torn between the Scout and the CB, rode them both and liked them. In the end the CB won out due to being a UJM plus cost equipped the way I wanted was less than half the cost of the Indian.
Would like to have the Indian Scout, good looking well engineered bike but oh my is it pricey. Just not twice as good as the C B.

Not even half as good?
No, I'm kidding.

Wisedrum,

who doesn't really like the chopper riding style, after
he had driven a big VT for quite some time, although it was a nice
and very handsome bike.

I own a 2015 scout, 1949 EL Harley, and a 2011 Cross country, along with the 2013 CB1100. The scout seems alot faster to me it is a high reving v-twin. The scout is a bit longer, but not as tall. The CB handles curves better, and the brakes are better. They are very different from each other. The scout is like a hot rod, that can hold curves. The CB is like a sports car. It is fast, and handles well.

I was looking to try a Scout last year but I thought that delvery to the UK would be slow and my suspicions proved to be correct with them missing the start of the season. I've never had a full cruiser riding position and I'm not sure my back would take it now. What really impressed me about the design was the way they made no excuses about it being a water cooled engine, no false cooling fins (unlike the new Triumphs) and I think the engine looks superb.

My short list was DLX vs Scout. For me both had very different, yet very classic looks that sucked me right in. I revisited the Indian dealer yesterday (they has a used ST1300) and the Scout still sucked me in, but I'm glad I chose the DLX.
