Rode my ST today up to have a burger with a buddy. 181 miles round trip on the freeway. Piece of cake on an ST. I call mine STarship because it teleports me across the country at warp speed lol
(then I came home and got out my CB for a 42 mile curvy roads ride. It seems so little after climbing off the ST..almost like a 500cc bike or something)

Are there a lot of new ST1300s around? I thought not, which is why I was surprised to see one at Des Plaines Honda this afternoon. I didn't have time to talk to the folks about it, but it is a nice looking machine.

Yes nice bike with traveling a long distance. I had a dark blue 2004 with abs and it was a great bike.

There were rumors about a replacement ST for years but Honda seems to have walked away from that market. The bike has been around for numerous years but it has worn it's age well.

Forgot to mention while at lunch I test sat his BMW 1200GSA. No way I could ride it though. On the side stand, both my feet were dangling in the air..by a good margin lol. He put it on the centerstand for this pic so I could sit steady. He's had a lot of bikes and this one is his current favorite. It was nicely appointed. Way too tall for me though.

If there is a Honda that could be said to replace the ST1300 it would be the new VFR1200X. This is surely not a serious off road bike but with the available luggage would make an excellent sport-tour bike. A little tall for short guys like me but with the after market 30mm lowering kit it would be manageable. The convenience of shaft drive, spoked wheels that run tubeless tires, near 6 US gal fuel capacity and at 630 lbs about 100 lbs lighter than the ST.

I wish Honda would build a 900-1000cc four with small fairing and hard removable luggage, hydraulic valves, shaft drive, about 550 pounds. Sort of like the old CB700S. Probably never ever will see such a creature again though.
Redbirds I think we are supposed to get the Crosstourer (VFR1200X)later this year. if only it isn't too tall.....

So, is it unusual or not that my local Honda dealer has a new ST1000 on the floor? I don't know the model year of it, but it's brand-spankin new.

It's on the US Honda website now. Seat height is listed at 33.5" or about the same as my Tiger 1050. I lowered the Tiger with after market suspension struts that are similar to those available for the Honda. I was able to get the balls of my feet down after the mod and was okay with the height. Handling after the mod was better than before. The Honda has an advantage of being very narrow in the front portion of the seat which would also aid us "average height" guys.

The Tiger 800 is 31.1" with the low-seat option. My Honda dealer took a CBR650F and made it into a little sport tourer. Slightly taller windshield, side and top cases, heated grips. He wants my wife to buy it. It's not bad, really and she'd never fit on the ST1300. Seat height on the 650 is 31.9. We shall see. (sorry for tossing this in on the ST1300 thread, but my post sort of evolved as I typed)

MTC,
Is that ST black? It's a 2012. The last year of new ones in the US. I have one by the way.
