CB500X

This mid-sized (darn I say "small") adventure bike has been getting great reviews (e.g. Giant Loop the luggage people, really like it, reviewers seem to love it). With a bit of farkeling it can do 90% of what an Africa Twin can do, at roughly half the cost.

My main concern, draping my long frame over it.

Anyone here have one? Comments?

Its pretty small. Even I can reach the ground on it. I think Papa Weeley just bought one.

Yup, sure did! Love that little puppy.

I'm 6', 175 lbs. Fits me like my favorite old pair of Levis. Super comfortable, upright position.
I could use maybe a little more legroom, but it really hasn't been enough of an issue to worry much about. A slightly taller seat would completely solve that concern...I'm always just too busy farkling my CB11 to address it yet, so you know it's not a big deal. Technically, it makes standing up on the pegs on rough roads easier, although that's been a tiny fraction of my riding so far.

Here's my thread from when I first got it for some further info:

Please feel free to ask me any other questions!

P.S. I assume we're talking about the CB500x here - I just noticed that your header actually says "CX500X"! Shy

I remember that thread now. I have a XR650L that mechanicly is driving me nuts and taking too much money. Love being tall and high, the deep deep suspension travel and about 100lbs lighter than the CB500X. But it has a carb. As reliable as a 1970 snowmobile, mileage sucks, vibrates (not a real deal breaker but with all the other annoyances it's starting to be) - just sells one thing and delivers something else. Sigh.....
The video in the link is amazing......

Hahaha - that's what I figured! Thumbs Up

Oh yeah, I'm also averaging 68mpg so far. Big Grin

If you wish to farkle your bike up a bit for more off road competency Giant Loop (scroll down the page in the link above) is carrying the Rally Raid stuff (but if you read the warning, they have been swamped for kit for the CB500X).

Hey, maybe the CB500X will be a stinker in sales over here and I can pickup a season end bike for cheap.

Oh yeah, RR was the first and best thing everybody recommended on the CB500 forum when I joined. To be honest, most of that stuff is designed for way more hardcore off-road stuff than I'll probably ever do. I'm more like a 95%(road)/5%(dirt) guy at this point, anyway. Regardless, it looks like some great quality stuff, and they've certainly got a great rep with the CB500x guys.

Well, if you can wait until New Years Eve like I did, maybe you can nail down the kind of deal I got, too! Big Grin
Keep us posted!
Oh, and speaking of farkling, I recently added the 2016 model factory fairing windscreen (mine's a 2015), as it's a lot larger, and gives much better wind protection. It's pretty much a bolt-on affair, and somehow, EXTREMELY cheap ($46!) in the event you find a leftover 2015 model bike and want to upgrade.
I also got the factory "air deflectors". These mount on the fairing lowers, kind of parrallel to your shins. These things are great - huge help in wind (and I'm sure weather) protection in combination with the windscreen. Feels like a much larger/more comprehensive fairing set-up at speed.
I also just got Pazzo clutch and brake levers. I'm never a fan of factory levers - RLETS be darned! - and usually like CRG, but they didn't have an application for this bike. The Pazzos seem every bit as good, however, and I love the way they feel.
That, and Grip Puppies, and I'm set for the time being. I've entertained the idea of an aftermarket exhaust in the hopes of a little more go-power, but I think I've decided against that, at least for the time being. My Triumph Bonneville was pretty loud with the Dominator Touring pipes I put on it, which got pretty old fast on longer rides. I guess I must be getting old, too - never thought I'd be saying that... Undecided

I'm thinking about going to a dealer this am, but the CB is almost paid off, the Griso, shortly after that. I'll need to wait a bit before my wife will let me go for another bike.

I can't see me doing single track, even with the 650L, so tires and perhaps the forks upgrade and possibly the rims and tires. I like the idea of a 19" front. Amazing how well that works on dirt roads.

And probably a custom seat. I seem to have a very fussy bum. sigh....

Papa Weeley.. For me it was 1983 ish and I had a Vance and Hines 4 into 1 pipe on my 81 GS1100E. Great bike, but the blasted 4 into 1 drone drove me nuts on anything more than a 35 mile ride. Riding it for 6 or 7 hours in a row, just drove me batty. I swore no more aftermarket pipes for me from then on. Then in 1994 my wife bought me a new Sportster for Christmas. Of course it had to have custom pipes, along with all the chrome in the catalog. When I went to pick it up and soon as I fired it up I knew it was too loud. Not sure how long it lasted, a year? And I was moving on to something that I could ride and hear myself think at the same time. I have learned to love quiet.
