Replacement for the CB1100

The 3 CB1100(s) were the prettiest bikes I've owned of the 26 I've had the pleasure of experiencing so far but not even that retro 70s/80s feel could beat out Suzuki's VStroms. They just ride so well and I thought the 2nd gen V650 was the bike but I warmed up to the 3rd gen V1000 looks and bought this 2018 and have to say I'm hooked on the characteristics. For the time being the 650 will stay but may not get a lot of miles. If anyone gets an opportunity to demo by all means don't pass it up.

When a riding buddy and I rode out to Cali in 2014, he was riding a Vstom 1000. It ran perfectly the whole trip and I don't even remember him adjusting the chain. He did lube it though. 5500 miles in 11 days. They are wonderful motorcycles. Maybe not beautiful, but eminently efficient and durable.

Should keep both! I know what you mean though. The mid-weight ADV category is one of my favorites. The bikes are so versatile, comfortable and fun. I loved my Tiger 800. Haven’t tried a VStrom yet but I imagine it’s similar though I heard the motor is more bottom end and midrange than top-end.

It's good, if a motorbike has these 'characters' .
But it should be also beautiful, at least in my eyes. To have all in one isn't easy to find nowadays, but I know a very small number ... you probably too as a CB owner...

I would never buy such an only pragmatic being bike.

I agree with Wisedrum , a motorcycle should have beautiful lines, I would never buy an ugly motorcycle even if it is practical.

I never dated ugly girls either even if they were great cooks !

We've had two V-stroms, both "Wee's" and can attest to their bulletproof reliability and comfortable ergos. The 2012 Pamela had got amazing fuel mileage when ridden conservatively, up to 67 mpg on one occasion. The seat is one of the best OE's and maintenance is easy. The brakes are a bit weak but can be improved with after market pads. Outstanding bikes that hit far above their weight class.

Dang; I didn't need to read this. I've been looking into the DL1000 lately. Not as pretty as the Africa Twin, but lighter. I like lighter. Feel free to post more ride reports.

I'm perfectly Ok with an ugly bike if it does everything I want it to do better than anything else for the money. Case in point: I was strongly considering getting a Suzuki Bandit 1250 before purchasing the CB11. that thing is known for being a workhorse, has a good seating position, tons of power and tons of practical design implemented in a no-frills package. it is also ugly as sin. still, the CB11 got pushed to the front because it did all that without being ugly, and for a much better price.

I consider my Ulysses to be terribly ugly but it is the most comfortable bike I've ever ridden and it's quite versatile as well as fun to ride. I just keep it parked behind my Trans Am in the garage so I don't have to see it every time I'm out there.

You're V-Strom is better looking though.

I do not think that the Suzuki Bandit is ugly at all , my s.i.l. had one and loved the bike.
