I recently purchased a 2014 CB1100 and took the first ride other than riding the bike home after purchasing. The ride home after purchasing was somewhat sketchy as the battery looked like it was original and the bolts on the poles weren't secure causing the bike's fueling to go on and off. Talk about a buck' bronc; I managed to get it to the front of my driveway before it quit completely. Not fun! I had recently totaled my 2016 Moto Guzzi Eldorado and through the proceeds got a 1998 Moto Guzzi EV (my 4th Guzzi) as it has all the bags etc. and I like to travel on a bike. The CB is more for 4cyl fun. I had a Gen 1 Yamaha FZ1 with all the farkles which I loved to death. So, I haven't had a 4 cylinder since then with the exception of a Suzuki GSXR 750. I subsequently had only V-Twins in the arsenal. It was little bit of a re-learning experience on the CB. I was not disappointed. 80 mph is only 4250rpm in 5th gear at least according to the speedo. It seems like it doesn't need a 6th gear but it is nice to have. Suspension is not bad for stock but it could use a steering damper. Has anybody fitted one? Windage is not bad as the Eldo was a lot worse at 80mph even with a fairing/windshield. I put on a Boosterplug to richen up idle to 4000, a Delkevic mini 8", a cafe' fairing is on order and the bike really needs to have bar end mirrors as I put some on that I had in the workshop as the bunny ears that were on the bike were not to my liking. The brakes are quite good and you have to be a bit careful on how much you use. A real nice bike in a lot of ways...

You know it already (your last sentence), but yes ... the front brake is not to joke with when speed is low, in particular when the front wheel isn't straight.

J3, shall we say that, prudence is the key word when operating the brakes at low speed. It doesn't seem to be an issue when coming down off of higher speeds, just something to think about.

Hello ampm7. We should get together soon and ride. I'm up in Julian. I'm interested in the Powerplug too.
You guys, I was looking forward to these "great CB1100 brakes" I heard about, but while they are fine on my bike I'd not say they're great. (No, I never had a CB750, lol.) Kinda wooden feeling in my case. Yes, the pads are in good, fresh shape without any fork oil and stuff. I'm going to flush the fluid and see if that helps, but it appears very fresh in the sight glass.

Well, there are pad alternatives. Until you put them on, you really don't know. Sure Scotty, I'm in Vista. Let's get together on a ride...

Right on, thanks. A switch to some EBC pads would be pretty quick and simple.
