Triumph Trident
#1
Had to kill a few minutes waiting to pick up an order and was next to one of the local Triumph dealers, so I took a peek in the showroom to look at the new Trident.

They had two, one that was sold and another with a pending sale. It has a round headlight, round-ish tank, so not sure if it's going for a neo-retro look, but I sat on it, fiddled with the controls and the TFT dash menus, and thought it was pretty comfortable and cool.

With all of the fees tacked on, it was $9k, and they said they are sold before they hit the floor right now. I wouldn't mind taking one for a spin, but it would mean making a tough choice between the CB or the Bonnie if I decided I just had to have it.

Soooo, this thread is to dissuade you, or help you decide? (◠‿◕)

A buddy is very keen on one. But he's much shorter and smaller than me so he fits it very nicely.

You dont need two triumphs! The trident is going to be a heck of a lot more fun than the Bonne.

A decision right now is not a factor. I'm not keen on buying a new bike that's so hot that they can't keep them on the sales floor.

But, like a few other models, it's being marketed as a good "first real bike". So, I just have to wait a while, until a few start popping up used with three figures on the odometer, purchased by people who changed their minds.

My other "wait and see" bike, don't laugh, is the new Katana. But, I think that one is more of an "I bought it because I really wanted one", more so than an impulse buy. Haven't seen a used one pop up yet.

The Trident looks to be great value for what you get but there seems to be a lot of feedback that it is a firm ride, I would look for a test ride before committing.

I'd like to pick up a new bike but with this market I'm too cheap to pay top dollar plus fees. It helps that I don't need another bike. Smile

Why would we laugh? I like the half-fairing design. My only concern is the location of the front signals. They look really easy to snap off.

I like the look of them. I just wish they didn't neuter the engine. They should of just made a retro Street Triple like the Yamaha XSR is to the MT.
I get what they were trying to do with an "entry level" but a retro Street Triple would of been great and just different enough not to mess with the Bonneville line.

Have they really neutered it though? I think they have spent a good deal of engineering effort trying to get the torque spread wider and further down the rev range to make it a more useable road bike. Peak power has little meaning in this context. The Street Triple still exists for those that want power and a screamingly high rev range. I road a friends 765RS, a fantastic bike but ultimately wasted unless you pin the throttle and max out the gears, keeping the revs high and peaky. Riding a bike like that all day gets tiresome I expect, I frazzled my brain riding like that for an hour. Not forgetting the Trident engine is the older, smaller capacity engine too.
