New CB1000R get tank dented day one.
#1
I sold the Africa Twin four weeks ago then last Friday purchased a new CB1000R. More horsepower than I can say grace over, but otherwise it fits the bill. I drive to Petersburg West Virginia to buy it. The dealer has this younger dude to load the bike into the U-haul trailer. This same dude has me purchase a handlebar harness. He puts the harness on the handlebars and then runs the ratchet straps down the outside of the trailer. The hooks on the ratchet straps are hooked to the bottom of the trailer. On the way home I hit one of many bumps in the road and sure enough the bike falls over. The damage is done. I then use only the ratchet straps, and put them over the forks with the hooks inserted into the D-rings on the trailer floor. Then, the three hour drive home proceeds without incident.

Man that sucks...pure and simple. It’s interesting how some dealers will load and strap while others refuse for liability issues. My Goldwing and Cb were purchased in Virginia and North Carolina respectively. Both dealers loaded and strapped down. Yet, a local Kawasaki dealer refuses. Out the door and it’s yours.

Nothing can be more heart breaking than to suffer damage on the first day.
We feel your pain.

I have loaded dozens of bikes on my trailer and never had a problem .
I use a lot of "soft ties" to tie onto the bike and than put the ratchet strap on the soft ties . You might laugh but I use EIGHT straps on my bikes when trailering and have done 1200 mile trips with no problem. Always check the straps after say 5 to 10 miles after loading. The front tire sits in a Baxley LA chock and this way you can load the bike by yourself. Very sorry to hear about your bad luck , any response from the dealer ?

Unless the newer model has a double wall tank, a paintless dent removal guy should be able to take care of that. I’ve had dents that size removed no problem.

Looks like that dent goes into a hard body line. Gonna make paintless dent repair *very* difficult...

Hey Active Dirt Hello

man that's a bummer about the dent in the new ride. The CB1000R sure is different than the Africa Twin!

Hey bring it to the rally in PA in Sept and show it to us.

Difficult but not impossible for a guy who knows what he's doing. Worst that can happen is you get a guy to look at it and he says no. The guy I've used for years has been able to tell me if he can or can't do a job. He won't touch it if he doesn't think it will produce a good result.

That does suck. Sorry to see something like that happen to your new baby! Nothing that can't be fixed though. If the dealer loaded it, it would seem that they would be on the hook for it, or at least a negotiable amount of repair.

Running straps outside of the trailer? That doesn't sound right...

Ten yers ago, we had hell hail of a 1x3" size...birds dropping from the sky and all outside cars damaged badly....
My car had 170 dents everywhere, paintless dent removal team handled it to perfection , even closed profiles like roof pillars, absolutely nothing can be seen during day light; sunny or cloudy day, in garage, shade or any artificial light.
A good professional will handle your gas tank dent, hope that paint is not cracked.
Go for it and good luck, pictures before and after, please.
Thumbs Up

That sucks. It appears the dealer was negligent in loading your bike and should be held accountable for the damage. If he refuses, bring your complaint to small claims court and let a judge decide.
