Bazbro, I don't think he was going for Steampunk... no brass or exposed superfluous rivets.
I think he was channeling Daimler's 1895 example. The exhaust on this thing comes out under the seat too (I only know because I've seen replicas - was hoping the picture would make it clear) And show me another stylized concept bike that looks like it is remotely comfortable.

I've had several shaft drive bikes, four BMW's among them. While it looks cool I can't see how BMW was able to get an exposed drive shaft on the market. How they got it buy the German agency that monitors potential safety hazards is beyond me. Would not want to see an article of clothing or a piece of metal/wood/whatever that had been run over lodged in it.
Just my 2 cents.

They evidently did a bunch of tests showing that junk can't get stuck and wrapped around in it. Not sure how realistic the tests were. I love mine in any case, and it doesn't cook my thighs! I think I remember Mr. P. reporting that he rode one and it handled like a pig. While I know he's a spirited rider, the odds are that the bike he rode had the pre-load set to the stops. The bikes are shipped that way, and some poll had over 80 percent of the dealers not setting it up according to their checklist (other BMW's aren't shipped that way). Mine in any case handles quite well. You can tell if it's set up wrong by the fact that you'll scrape pegs. I have to REALLLLY go out of my way to try to scrape mine.

That is insanely interesting to look at Tommy.
Guess no lane splitting in L.A. with this?

Not sure how much more dangerous a rotating shaft is than a jagged spinning thing and a chain flying around it.

To keep it from throwing sparks I had to slow down dramatically ahead of turns, which is not at all something I'm used to. That was also the Transcontinental version which i believe is heavier and has the floorboards though, so that may make a difference in how soon it drags. what killed me about that bike the most was that it rattled all my fillings out of my head. the not-cooking-thighs thing seems like a huge advantage over its competitors though. the comparable Harley road glide or CVO still has a big v-twin and those have always been very hot on my legs in any format. |
