Thinking of buying one of these. Anyone out there have any experience with one or know someone that does? Just doing homework right now.

I’ve ridden a few of the v-4 Interceptor bikes back in the day and they were very well rounded machines…….but I see you are referring to a modern version that has become a 620 lb off road bike?

In that case I’d wonder why anyone would want a 620 lb off road bike.

I've been looking at adventure style bikes more for the on road comfort than the off road capability. They're roomy and I don't feel cramped. I had forgotten Honda made this and it peaked my interest, so just researching a bit.

They sold quite poorly in Europe as they are so heavy. They are reasonably cheap to pick up 2nd hand because of it. I think most owners, if they were honest, would say the weight gets tiresome after a while. They have never been cutting edge though, don't think they ever had cruise control.

I did spend some time on one and I really loved it. Yes they are heavy, but I did not find it more of an issue than in say a Tiger 1200. The GS is better when it comes to weight, also having the weight a bit lower. I would not want to take it off-road though... Also, I am quite tall so the weight of taller bikes is rarely an issue for me.

The engine is incredible, and I liked using the DCT (was my first exposure to a DCT). I was interested in getting a second hand one as I thought prices would be low due to the poor success of the bike, but for some reason I find them to be a bit too expensive here in Switzerland.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm replacing a 2012 FLHRC H-D, so I am used to a heavy bike. Just wanted something roomy, not wanting anything cramped.

Shawnee Cycle in Shawnee has or had one for sale. Big bike in person but a V4 is a thing of beauty.

I bought a new 2017DCT as a leftover in 2018, actually Honda had some in stock and I had my dealer order it for me at a nice leftover discount. I had never ridden one but I wanted somewhat of a touring biased adv bike with tubeless wheels, more wind protection, etc., also I had a 2016 Africa Twin DCT and I liked the transmission.

Initial impression which remained every time I rode it was whoa this thing is top heavy. Just getting it upright off the side stand took a lot of effort, more than any bike I ever tried including Harleys, ST1100, R1200GSA, etc. I will say though that the tall weight really settles down once moving, many tall, heavy bikes claim this but it really is the case on the VFR1200X.

Engine, DCT, manually adjustable windshield, worked very well. It was a pretty nice bike out on the highway other than oddly enough they don't have cruise control. Fit and finish was very good.

What I didn't like; the seat was sloped down toward the tank and generally uncomfortable enough that I sprung for a Corbin. The bar height was fine but the forward reach was uncomfortably far. I bought a cheap set of risers off Amazon that brought the bars back more (about 1") than up and that made it ok for me even if it looked a little odd. Suspension was another problem I had with this bike in that the front was very hard and abrupt on rough roads, potholes, dirt roads, etc., while the rear was weak, soft and bouncy. This was even after adjusting both as best as I could get them. My final gripe was the snatchy, abrupt, low speed throttling. I bought a Throttle Tamer for this bike but ended up trading it before it came so it's around the shop somewhere.
