Our other bikes
#1
In our intro we mentioned our other bikes.

We bought a His 'n Hers pair of '93 CB750 Nighthawks new. They're currently showing mid 70,000 miles on each. Z1BEBE's red 'Hawk is currently pickled for long storage, as she's pretty much decided to hang up her keys. I get my blue 'Hawk out a few times a month for a joyride, but it's not the same without her headlight on my five as it has been for decades. Selling both 'Hawks is on the front burner now to make way for a '17 CB1100EX we've found, if we choose to make that move.

Our 'Hawks remain box-stock, with the exception of the Targa fairings. The individual pics below were taken at the last Honda Hoot in Knoxville in '14(?). The pair together is at home two yrs. ago.

'93 was only year we're aware of that the CB750 was offered in two colors.

Z1BEBE sez "My Candy Metallic Red 'Hawk is prettier! It's my opinion & it's very true!":

slmjim sez "Balderdash!. My Candy Tahitian Blue 'Hawk is clearly more handsome!"

And so it goes...

We've spent the past 25 yrs. or so completing a full production set collection of Z1's. slmjim bought his first Z1 new in March, '74; a green/yellow '74 Z1-A. It's the green/yellow bike with the very early Corbin seat & Lester mags.

The family photo below was taken before we acquired the basket case that was to become the final piece of the set; a '73 Z1 in green/yellow Euro livery. It's a PITA to get all the Z1's out of the shop & lined up for a family photo, so the green/yellow Euro lookalike resides in a pic by itself, as seen at Barber a few years ago. It's a runner, but still a work in progress, as it needs a long rear fender (waiting on chrome), seat with pillion strap (searching), and metric speedo (a unicorn in the U.S.). Correct Euro rear shocks sans reflectors are being installed this week.

The family photo:

The '73 Euro lookalike, as seen at Barber Vintage days a few years ago. A basket case we named "The Seven Year _itch" for good reason:

More details on our Z1's in the family photo can be found here:

Looks like we're bumping into an attachment limit of some kind. We'll follow with a brief item about our ST1300A if the forum platform will allow.

Congrats on a few milestones, riding together with a passion for such a long successful period and collecting a " matching set " is quite the achievement in my books.

Still amazes me how much the designers of those bikes got so much right in producing timeless pieces of art compared to some of today's not so attractive bikes.

Bumped in to a younger couple on a mint orange 900 last year, such a treat to see them around still.

And thanks for sharing the events with our forum, think most of us would endorse the cb1100 as a classic addition to your list, thanks for sharing this thread.

Very nice and quite the cool collection.

I had a 1977 KZ 1000 I bought new ( the beginning of a 46 year love affair with liter class I-4's) and a 2000 Nighthawk 750 bought used. Both fine classic UJMs.

I fully understand your commitment to the Z-1. When I got my KZ750, I was new to riding (but not motorcycles) and it seemed like everyone had a Honda 750. When I saw that red KZ750, I knew I'd found my bike. And, it was $950 new, out the door in 1977. How times have changed. Of course, $12,000 a year salary was pretty fine money and a nice, new family home in San Antonio, TX, then was about $45-50K. Inflation, my friends.

Wow, great collection! I like the matching fairings on the Nighthawks, and matching gear to boot!

I miss my Candy Blue Nighthawk.

Very impressive Z1 collection as well. I've always had a liking for those bikes, and the new version is on my "If I had to buy a new bike right now" short list.

Thanks for posting, simjim.
I locked at above mentioned website. Please do not see this as a criticism. But it would greatly gain if you added "really sharp, high resolution" images ( -> check out the Z1 on wiki for an example). If necessary each one of your babies might even deserve a date with an (amateur) photographer Wink

PS: would also be really nice if anybody know a site where all the original Z1 color schemes were shown.
