600 Mile Service
#1
Completed my 600 mile service this afternoon with the exception of the oil change (I'll pick-up oil and filter tomorrow to finish). It was my first adjustment on the chain, it was at the max and only had to do a little adjustment. The axle nut was not tight at all! Checked over everything from the list on here in the "How to Section". That's a great tool. Bike is in great shape. I did not care for the looseness of the throttle when I picked up the bike and had already adjusted that, which I checked again and it was still ok. I cleaned her up and applied a little wax. I love this bike. I have only added the rear carrier and a color matched removable top case, a Shad 37. I like the bike naked, but had to be able to secure items that I can't carry into work with me. I do have a question, If I am at speed and close the throttle I get a little surge out of the engine, Have any of you notice this? If I ease off it does not do it.

I have no idea what your question means.

I'll try to better explain. If I come off the throttle quickly to slow down, right as I come off the throttle the bike lurches forward for a second then slows down, like it is getting a little shot of fuel when I close the throttle. Its noticeable, but not a major issue and I normally don't close the throttle quickly, I ease off the gas and slow. It only happens when suddenly letting off the throttle. When I completed my service I adjusted the slack out of the chain, but have not been out on it yet and the chain was only at the max side of the spec, not extremely loose. Might be slack in the chain possibly.
After I change the oil I'm hoping to get some riding in today, suppose to be in the 60's here in Eastern NC next couple of days. If I can also get my honey-do's done.Dodgy

Mine does the same thing. IMO it's programmed into the FI for emission control. Other fuel-injected bikes I've owned do not/didn't do this.

Hm, did not observe such behavior with my CB 1100. But it is true, when one goes off the throttle quickly the load changes reaction of the engine is more harsh compared to my Transalp. I assume it simply has to do with the more power of the engine.

Thanks Guys,
It's really not an issue for me just notice it and thought it was unusual. I was at the dealer today to get the oil and filter and they thought it could be the chain looseness. Riding out to dinner tonight will see how it does. This is my first bike in a long time and first with fuel injection. This is a great forum isn't it!!

This is interesting... I took my CB to the Honda dealer in St. Pete yesterday for my 600 mile oil change; which is really all I wanted. I normally don't want any dealer, car or otherwise, to soak me on their 'normal maintenance routine', although I usually follow the 'book' when it comes to fluid changes and other important checks. While the guy was writing it up, he looked at the service manual to see what else was needed at 600 miles, and said the oil change was it. I don't know if they checked the chain or not. I lubed it almost immediately after buying it with BelRay (I also use this on my KLR, and have lubed it once at around 300 miles just to be sure. I'll lube it again after my ride today.
