Here's where I am at so far. All stock workings, added windshield, usb power/phone mount, and side boxes. I made prototype brackets with galvanized steel angles bolted together and to the same points as the stock grab bars, which are still in place.
Hope to fab grab bar, bag/box mount, and turn signal bracket all in one, but I have minimal metal working experience. I was thinking box steel or aluminum, but flat steel like you used would be easier to bend to the contour I suspect. If I can't figure out bending I was thinking I could match the existing bolt points with a combination of flat steel and spacers and holes drilled correctly, but wouldn't be as sleek. In my current setup, the boxes have to be out somewhat wide and forward to clear the rear signals so I want to shift them back and tighten the boxes closer to the bike.

I don't have bags to deal with but there are lots of other people here that do. There are threads for all kinds of stuff related to rear bags: mounting brackets, turn signal relocation, etc. My shop is really basic but I do have a good sized vise bolted to a table and a heavy hammer. The 1.25x3/16 steel bar I bent by clamping it in the vise and beating it with the hammer, cutting it with a jig saw with a metal cutting blade, drilling, filing, etc. If you don't have those tools maybe you could find a shop or another amateur mechanic nearby? |
