Bike wouldn't start today.. bad battery?

Yeah. When I was living in Sweden, I actually left my 550 sitting in the garage over the winter in some reasonably cold temperatures, as low as -10C or lower, which is in the mid teens F. I got the bike out one day during a "warm" spell in hopes of letting it run for a while and found the battery too low to start the bike, so I brought the battery into my place to put it on a tender. The next time I tried was the day I sold the bike before moving out, and with a little coaxing the bike did still start up (was still freezing and snowing, I never got to take her for a final ride!).

I guess lead-acid batteries will go the way of the dodo bird in the not too distant future, but hopefully we can benefit from the battery tech that's being worked on in the electric/hybrid car industry.

My 04' Harley 1200 Sportster ate battery's. You have a Honda !! Put a battery from Walmart in it. Don't let some dealer deal you for more money !! You need a BATTERY !!! God Bless..

I am a little shocked the oem battery went south at 18 months but stranger things have happened. I have had some on cars go sour at 6 mouths. Glad you got it back going again. Good thing it caught you at home instead of on the road. THis has to be the first of the oem batterys failing so early. I need to load check my stuff to see what I really have before 2015 gets started.

On another forum it was mentioned that many folks don't properly charge a new battery once the acid has been put in (this includes dealers). If you have a brand new improperly charged battery then you run the risk of it failing early. If you have hot summers like we do in Phoenix; 18 months is about average for a battery.
