Alarm systems

Dear friends,

Now I am just thinking about alarm system. Something talks to me that it will be better to install it. But wich one?

If some of you installed some security system, please, tell about your experience.

My friend has a cool one that clips on the brake caliper of his S1000RR, just takes a key to disarm/unlock. It's super sensitive. I grabbed his clutch and it went off, high pitch squealing noise. No sense in getting anything more expensive. If someone wants your bike, they will throw it in the bed of a truck and worry about the alarm later.

Yes, I thought about that lock. But maybe add some GSM/GPS tracker?

Not sure about in Russia, but all those devices in American require an activation fee and monthly fee. But you also get a reduction in your insurance. Are you able to call your insurance provider and ask about how often your type of bike is stolen? Or how frequent thefts are in your area? Might be able to put you at ease over spending on a security system. Or it will completely justify it haha

in Russia it is not so common to insure motorcycles. And because of it it costs so much. It is not a question of insurance.

Previous bike I equipped by Scorpio I900 alarm system. It was nice, had a connection kit, no necessary to cut wires. But, actually, I didn't use remote ignition disable, just siren and signal of remote control.

That is why I would like to ask about other bikers point of view.

Wow so you have a 2014 CB 1100 and a 2012 VFR both uninsured for theft? No wonder you are asking about alarms, of course my view may be tainted by American television lol

Well certain markets got a CB1100 with HISS. It disables ignition (fuel pump, I believe) if the actual key isn't present. If yours has this, you won't even need an alarm to disable ignition! But I agree with ferret, if it is costly (and not required) to insure, just go ahead and get an alarm with a GPS.

Question is which one?

1. lock on wheel with siren
2. Ordinary alarm system (I have expierence with Scorpio I900, maybe someone suggest something else)
3. GPS tracker
4. GPS alarm system (like Scorpio RIDE system)

Either GPS system would be good. With a quiet GPS tracker, you wouldn't tip the thieves off that they are being tracked and they won't hunt for a device to disable. On the flip side, a loud alarm may deter a theft but lets committed thieves know there is a system they need to find and disable... I'd be caught between the two... All boils down to what you think is best...
