What would it take to install the ABS system from the deluxe model and put it on the Standard model?
I imagine the computer would have to be changed or reflashed with the Deluxe firmware but, what else?

Just the ABS modulator alone is more than $1,000.

I have a sneaky feeling the ECU will have to be replaced too. I can't find a price for that!

I think I remember finding the ecu price last year. It was in the $8XX and some change range I'm thinking.

On the parts fiche the the ECU is called the PGM-FI Unit and list is ~615. The part number for the non ABS and ABS model is different. Here is a link to the?14 non ABS fiche. The ECU is in the Wiring Harness section.

You can change year and model to see differences or look up parts. There are other parts sites on-line too.

I went back and looked at the 2013 ABS and NON abs ECU and it is the same part number. So in the example above, it may be a difference in the standard model and the deluxe.

Is the reason just because? Is it perceived as safer? Just wondering.

I don't know. Doesn't the standard model have 5 speeds? The deluxe has 6. Maybe that? Are the instruments the same? I don't have have a wiring diagram for '14s so can't even look at that. Mine is a '13 non abs.

No I have had both bikes with and without ABS, the ABS is safer in some situations but, it is nice to have both experience and the advanced safety feature.
Personally, if Anyone has any deluxe models left I would have bought it.
Don't get me wrong, I like my bike and I'm getting a ton of parts for it but, I don't want to have to rebut the parts if I ever exchange it for a deluxe model down the road. Of course, that might just be the cheaper option.

No the 14 models both had 6 gears.

So it is probably about the same price as just replacing the upgrades if I ever find a deluxe version for sale.
