Justin, there is a slotted ring on the rear wheel and a Hall effect sensor that sends pulses to the speedometer. So, magnetic Smile

Nice. My KLR has a speedo hub and cables that mightve failed somewhere so I'd like to avoid it on a potential bike.

If the bike has ABS there is also a slotted ring and sensor on the front.
