Hunting rpm
#91
Wisedrum, does the idle stay at 1500 RPMs in neutral and in gear? With my issue, when I shifted the bike into 1st (sidestand up) and slowly let the clutch out, the RPMs would surge to +2000.

The dealership replaced the idle air control valve motor, and this resolved the issue. Then they reset the ECU, so we know it was not the ECU reset that resolved the issue.

Yes, it stays there in gear and in idle often.
Sometimes a little ahead and beneath, but doesn't move up to 2.000+. I'm testing and often get the same results. As I wrote, the upcoming spring will hopefully bring new and better insights. I will first let the ECU reset by a Honda dealer and than ride some more km to find out, if anything has changed. The best way would be a selfhealing of the CB, but I don't really believe in it, because the bike still suffers some time with this disease. How expensive was the exchange of the IAC valve motor to get an idea of what to expect?

List price of the IACV (Motor assem.) is 119.13. Can get it for $86.49 on partsfish. Didn't check other sites for a better price.

This is EXACTLY what my bike is doing!!! All I have to do is convince the service department at Honda, here in San Diego Ca, that this is the problem. I will direct them to this site. Thank you so much!

Dave, have you called Honda of America about this?

Hi Popgun. I talked to the Honda representative at the service desk where I bought the bike. He typed in my VIN and told me "I don't see any service bulletins or recall notices on this bike". And of course, followed by "you need to bring the bike in so that we can look at it." I plan to go back in and talk to them again as soon as I can get some additional information. I will ask tory if he can provide any additional information on the ECU software update they performed on his bike.

Hi, all CB1100 fan

Hi tory. Can you possibly provide additional information about the ECU software upgrade that I can provide to my Honda dealer to convince them that this is a problem that Honda is aware of, and has a fix for? It seems that here in the states our dealers don't understand the problem, or are aware of a solution. Is it possible that you can provide either a service bulletin number or anything else? Is there anything on your service receipt that could help my dealer here understand the repairs that are being performed in Thailand? Thank you very much.

I hope Tory can help with this.

I would still call Honda of America and talk to them about it as they may some info, or be able to get it from mother Honda.
