In process of purchasing a 2014 CB1100, black version (“Standard” as I understand.)
The sales manager at dealership pointed out the fine tooth appearance of the rear wheel (sprocket?) and said, “This version has the antilock brake on the back.”
When I read specs for the standard model, it does not tout ABS, so, what do the small slots around the inner part of rear tire sprocket indicate? Is this a form of anti-lock brake? This person said it’s good enough to designate the bike as ABS for my insurance company...
Any insight to better understand this would be appreciated!

He is not correct... that’s the speedometer gear.... great ride. Have fun. ABS is only on the deluxe or the new 2017s

Another uninformed sales person. Gosh this has been an issue since 2013. You'd think eventually they would quit giving out erroneous info.

And that is not a “dumb question” by any means. There are a lot of forum members who love share their experience and knowledge with others, especially to new CB1100 enthusiasts/owners. So ask away without hesitation!

If you also had a reluctor (looks like a gear, sometimes) also on the front, it would be an indication of ABS.
The photo in this link of of a stamped reluctor for each wheel of certain automotive applications. Looks similar to the one for the CKP sensor on our bikes. This one is being vision inspected for stamping deformities.
Don't know how long this link will work, as the company closed down in May and the website was supposed to be shut down:
http://www.calmation.com/dt_portfolio/ro...nspection/
On our CBs the reluctor consists of slots for reading by a speed sensor.

If your dealer is not convinced--the ABS bikes have an ABS indicator light on the clocks. You can show him a photo of this and compare with the bike that is for sale.
