I didn't know whether to put this is Accessories/Modifications or Mechanical & Technical, so I figured General would be fine.
I just got my 2014 Standard this past Tuesday. The only thing I disliked during the test ride was the exhaust noise (or lack thereof). Coming from a Buell, I knew not to expect anything near the throaty sound that it had, but I didn't think this bike was going to be only a hair louder than a Prius either.
My first question is: is there anything I can do that uses the existing can e.g. remove a baffle, etc. to get more volume? I'd rather not have to do anything permanent like drill anything out.
Second question is: (if the answer to the first question is no) what is considered to be a good aftermarket can to put on? Ideally something not too terribly expensive that gives me a little more sound but nothing obnoxiously loud.
Third question: if I do get an aftermarket can, what's the best way to go about tuning it?

Stock exhaust has no removable baffle. People have drilled out the baffle to make it louder. The search function will find the relevant thread on that. Arguably the most popular slip on exhaust is the Arrow. It’s available in the USA and around $550. The Arrow looks nearly identical in shape to stock but is smaller and also retains the OEM heat shield. There is a good video on YouTube of the Arrow in action compared to stock. Yoshimura also has their RS3 available, but it does not keep the stock look if that matters to you. It is cheaper then the Arrow.
In response to your tuning question, there is really no need to tune fueling for just a slip on. Bolt the thing on and ride away.

Delkevic model KIT25BW is 50% shorter and about 20 lbs lighter than factory muffler. It makes a nice low grumble, about 60% louder than stock across the rev range. $184 shipped to my door. You can find audio and comparison clips on youtube.

I'll search for the drilling-it-out thread. Thanks.
I'll also look into the Arrow you suggested.
So I don't have to tune for a slip-on, got it. I'd have to tune of I were to get a full exhaust system, right?

I like the look and I like the price. Hopefully I like the sound.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for the info. If I'm converting Yen to USD correctly I'm gonna have to go with a cheaper option. But maybe in the future!

Just to be accurate, several members have weighed the stock muffler when replacing with an aftermarket slip on and the stock muffler weighs 9 1/2 pounds.

A Staintune saves not quite 4 pounds over the stock muffler. ( see same thread post 163)
The Delvic muffler shown is smaller than the Staintune and my guess it would be a weight savings of about 5 1/2 pounds over the stock muffler.

Sorry Ferret, I didn't weight the factory muffler and just pulled the numbers out of the air. Delkevic FELT less than half of OEM muffler, but the ergonomics could have been a contributing factor in my comparison. Larger and more awkward to handle items seem to feel heavier than they actually are. If anyone need actual numbers I can measure tomorrow.
