Well alrighty then. I will use non ethanol when available, and top tier 87 all other times. My local super stores like Wawa and Thorntands sell 100% gasoline 89 they call marine fuel. Thank you for setting me straight.

DBM, please don't think that we are picking on you or blaming you at all for what happened. Carbon buildup may have been there from the original owner, given that he didn't have many miles on it, and may have just started it up and blipped the throttle a lot in the garage.
It's also hard to know how truly clean-burning any particular fuel is, as there are different formulations for seasons, and so many different refineries.
Anyway, the big question is, since it is still vibrating badly, will the dealer take it back apart and fix the problem?

For the last 35 years I have been using 93 in all my over 30 different bikes and never had a carbon build up problem. I do check the plugs on my CB 1100 and they look great at 11000 miles.
I do not idle bikes unless stuck in traffic , I know I might waste money but I be ok with that.

see, that's why I mean by anecdotal evidence.

I have used what the manufacturers call for in all the 30 different bikes I have owned for 53 years, most with ethanol for the last 10 years, and never had a carbon build up problem and the plugs on my CB on 87 octane 10% ethanol looked great at 25,000 miles. It now has 43,000 miles. I try hard never to waste money. It's too hard to come by in any quantity lol.

No worries fellas. Every time l ride my bike, l do a couple of full throttle accleration runs to blow off any deposits that may be hanging around the combustion chambers. No problems after 45 years riding 30 bikes owned.

Sometimes the customer/owner will be so fed up or disenchanted that he might just park it and write it off. Or trade it in or sell it off like it is, and wash his hands of Hondas or motorcycles altogether.

If the cause was a bad fuel pump or injector(s) that were not caused by the customer usage, the emissions warranty would have covered the full repair.

Too bad, we likely will never know what happened here.
