But I am thinking about getting a CB1100 both as a second bike now, and when the 900 pound GW just gets too much for this old guy to handle, as my then primary ride. And it made me think, what to do for storage?
Personally, I don't want to have a backpack with me every time I ride. Most of my riding is in the summer, and its just too hot to have a backpack sitting on my back. I guess I could buy some nylon or other soft throw-over the seat type bags, but wondered what the rest of you do for just regular, everyday storage needs.
I have a Nelson-Rigg tail bag that I had intended on using for day trips and for commuting, but I only use it on longer trips now. For the short trips or commuting I use a roll-top dry bag tied down to my rear rack with Rok Straps (if I didn't have the rack, it would still fit across the rear part of the seat). For day trips, it can hold a extra clothing, a thermos, a few tools, rags, and cleaner spray. For commuting, I carry my laptop, my newspaper, a thermos, and occasionally extra clothing. works well and is way less costly than motorcycle-specific luggage.

Carries my puncture kit, cordless inflater, visor cleaner and wipes, waterproof trousers, spare gloves and neck warmer and plenty of room over.
My opinion is that any luggage ruins the lines of the bike which I'd rather not do.
For daily use a pair of leather saddle bags. On longer trips instead a pair of waterproofed Ortliebs, a larger luggage roll placed on the sozius seat behind me and tank bag.
I don't care about the fact, if it's a fact, that any luggage will ruin the lines of the bike. A bike has to be beautiful but practical too.

That's a good point, Wisedrum. I'm not even sure that's 100% true, that luggage ruins the lines of the bike, come to think of it. I've not noticed this at all.

AAA?
I know my CAA covers motorcycles for roadside assistance and tow.

that's great if you have cell service, but what if you don't?
I like bags of some kind on all my bikes cause I like to carry a few things, hat, bottle of water, and be able to get to the market to buy a loaf of bread and a bottle of whiskey, so I have a set of soft Cortech bags on the CB, and my BMW of course has hard bags.

Love the Kriega 30 liter bag . At some point will add a couple 10 or 20 liter bags to attach to the sides when more storage is needed ( road / camping trip to Montana at some point. )

I have a saddlemen HC 2900 48 liter top box The saddle men cost 139.00 shipped. The top box comes on and off easy with 1 hand retention screw from the inside of the box. The universal mounting plate I tie rapped to the Honda rear rack that would not fit the Honda top box and than I used the rack bolts and clips to secure the box on my rack. Theres a tab in the front of the top box that fits into a grove on the rack to further secure the box on the rack.I must add the clips are not perfect (the bars on our rack are spread to far apart) but the 4 clips are on, One side of the clip are on a bar the other on the plate itself and it works. I think the saddlemen looks pretty good, and for 139.00 bucks and easy installment its good value and gets the job done

I like hard luggage.....Givi side cases and tail trunk.....it should give you all the space you need.
