Here's my favorite Sportster, although I also like the café jobs. I got to ride one for a few days and it's handling and braking were amazing. Speed and acceleration were adequate, not up to the CB's level.

The XR may be a collector's item in a decade or two. The XR 750s from the '70's sure are. Right now you can get an XR1200 pretty cheap.

When the XR1200 first came out in the US, I was close to buying one but the foot pegs were right where my shins and calves landed when I was holding the bike up. I thought I could buy rearsets to fix the situation but I never pulled the trigger on the bike. The XR1200 is pretty affordable now, as you say, and possibly I should reconsider and pick one up?

I think CAPO summed it up nicely. I too owned a 2007 bonneville,and currently own a 2013 triumph tiger 800 and the cb1100. I never had any problems from mine aside from a slight oil leak when it was new at a crossover line. Just needed a half a turn to seat the crush washer and it was fixed. I agree the bonny seemed to grab more attention. However after i dressed it out the way i wanted,it ended up looking more like a thruxton than a bonnie. But thats whats cool about these bikes,there is so much you can do to personalize them the way you want. I should have kept it drained the fluids and hung on it my wall as garage art. I sold it to my brother inlaw.
Having ownd and ridden both i too think the cb1100 is a better bike. The bonny may have a bit more character but i enjoy riding the cb1100 much better.
In the 20+ years i have been riding i would also agree that the tiger 800 is one of the best bikes i have ever ridden.

My wife had a 2012 Bonnie SE for a short time. A very good bike in most respects but it's cursed with a truly miserable set of shocks and a seat that feels like a board. I liked the Bonnie despite it's short comings and would have kept it but she was determined to have another V-strom so it was traded for her current ride.

Too bad that Kawasaki does not sell the W800 in the US as it appears to be a better take on the old Bonneville than it's modern Triumph namesake.

Nice looking bike the Kawasaki W800. I looked at one when I was thinking about the CB1100. Didn't ride it, but it was pretty appealing if the CB hadn't come to pass.
