Yes the 78 KZ 650 was a stunning motorcycle. Never had one, but very nicely proportioned. Just like a scaled down KZ 900-1000.

Exactly! And as they used to say: "The power of a 750, the size of a 500..."

Did you ever make the same list for women? Here's a tip if you do and you're married: don't write it down. Or if you do, make sure the current "ride" is at the top of the list. Even if she's really not...

Here's my list:
1 CB1100 Deluxe (coming to my garage soon) Although I've yet to take delivery of my very own CB1100 Deluxe I have ridden one and really REALLY like the bike a lot, really. ;-) 2 ST1300, which I still own. My 2009 only has 20K on the clock. Now that I'm retired I hope the rectify that with some long distance rides, Montana for coffee, perhaps :-) 3 VFR800 / VFR750, I've owned both. LOVED these bikes. Said I would NEVER sell my `92 750... that was until a deal on the `02 800 came along. Ergonomics forced me to sell the `02, I'm old (60) and my knees were not happy any more on the cramped (for my 6'2" frame) riding position of the VFR. 4 CB700 / CB750, owned both. LOVED the 700, put 98K on her. The `92 750 Nighhawk was a great commuter bike and is under appreciated by many. Underpowered, short on brakes, but still a great little bike that I put 78K on. 5 Suzuki Bandit 1200/S I sold the Bandit last year after owning it for about 3 years. TOO fast for me, worried that I would loose my drivers license one day. Great bike, also under appreciated by many. TINK

You must have been the big man on campus with a motorcycle like that back in 77. Love your list. You had to be the man back in the day to own something like that KZ. They seemed so rare in my area for anybody to have a motorcycle that big. These pics are some for the ages for an old guy like me that just loves these standards. Going from a rigid mount 1200 Sportster to a Nighthawk 750 is a huge upgrade imo. After doing quite a few miles I am now starting to see the weak points that really are not all that bad. Yes, I need more power, better brakes, and a few other things but I made a major stride here imo. This sucker is super simple to work on and I love that part. The bang for the buck is simply unmatched by anything. Love these 750s and want a 1100 DLX bad. Edit: Let me clarify the power thing. These 750's are not really down on power at all. They will haul a$$ when asked to. I spend 90 percent of my time between 3-5K rpm. The 1100s make more torque at 2K than the 750s at peak. These 750's will haul the mail but you have to keep them stoked up in the rpm band. Im an old man and like roll on performance to some degree and more torque would be welcomed. Thats all I was getting at. These 750's will still not disappoint you in the 1/4 mile for what they are. Nearly 40 years and some things never change. The inline 4 has been tweeked and perfected again by Honda and here we are. I guess I am in the minority but I like this style of motorcycle so much that I just have to have one. |
