I knew the battery was toast, I was just confirming it for my own piece of mind. I checked the battery periodically and it never got above ambient temperature, so the 10A setting didn't cause any sort of danger.
I'm well aware of what not to do with batteries. I've been working on my own vehicles for 34 years and have been in the parts game for 29.
