It is a mean looking machine for sure - I love it.

Wheels, side covers and swingarm from Takase-san at Samurider.
I bought the exhaust directly from Yoshimura USA; it does not have a cat; took a few months.
Guhl's reflashed the ECU.
Shocks from EPM.
The tank was painted locally by Europa Autobody and Paint.
Bought the handle bar and mirror from SpeedMoto.
Rear light from Dime City.

It is pretty cool how this bike recaptures (ok; enhances) the feeling of the old one though. Makes me grin every time I ride it.

It made me grin when I saw it. Nicely done!

Ha,

Well done bro. Truly unique. I'd love to have a perfectly restored CB400 and your bike is the next best (or better) thing. I have that same taillight on my CB. One possible suggestion. With your small tail light the stock turn signals look really big. You might like these.

Cheers.

Thanks Chip; I used your thread for the rear light, and am planning on doing the turn signals as well, though I'm still vacillating between the Lockhart units and some billet ones I found for sale in Japan...

Very nice! Did you mod the forks at all? How much did the swing arm and shocks change the handling?

I'd love to say they transformed the bike; they did not. They are mostly eye candy.
Don't get me wrong; I loved the way the bike handled from the get go, and while you definitely notice the reduction in mass from the wheels, the swingarm and shocks were more of a cosmetic kick that a huge performance improvement. Honda engineers know what they are doing.
The shocks are slightly better at controlling the rear, and the swingarm does help too, but both are barely noticeable at road speed.
The front is stock; was eyeing an Ohlins fork a friend has gathering dust, but my queries so far have been rebuffed. May pop emulators in there next winter.
It is a road bike, made to look like the bikes I lusted after when I was a teen; any current supersport would kick its butt on the track. My old 900ss roadrace bike was better on the track too, but it was horrible on the street.
Again; this is mostly show, especially when you factor in the money spent vs the performance gain.
But I'd do it again.
This is the reason I bought this bike; it is a canvas to paint your dreams.

I've looked at those swing arms and thought they looked really cool. The CB certainly does make a good canvas as evidenced by some of the really cool bikes pictured on the forum. I agree with you, the Honda engineers know what they are doing, and big improvements seem to be hard to get. A change for looks or even a modest gain can be fun. I'm always concerned to make a change that might move things the other way (Not suggesting this applies to you in any way, just stating my personal concern with mods).
