How long do you plan on keeping your CB?
#11
I like this topic. It brings to light a number of questions and I think I have them answered.

First off I am 58 and have been riding since before I was 16. During those 42 years of riding I have had a number of bikes. Now at 58 I think I have refined my Keeper List to what you see below as my "Signature". I will be selling the Indian very soon as it is just not a usable bike. I have debated selling and reducing but to choose from the 7 left I just cannot do it.

But let's get back to my Keeper List, it is a collection of bikes with meaning and a great variety of riding styles. Variety is the spice of life right? I think my list is done. OH I will still do the Buy-an-Flip bikes as a hobby or repair bikes as I get the jobs but this is a good list for me. The CB1100 was the last of the list. A bike I can ride with absolute dependability. I can ride two-up with ease for trips around town with the wife. If I ever do longer trips it will get the job done with ease. With the mods done to it that makes it all the better and so much harder to get rid of.

I feel this bike will be with me till I just cannot ride it any longer. It just does the job required of it PERFECTLY with great looks.

If you can still enjoy riding the CB1100 all day, it is a no brainer keeper. Period.

I'll keep my CB1100 well into my '70s, hopefully - the bikes relatively heavy weight will be what determines that. Then my Bonneville. I'll keep them even if it's just to ride them around the block. Smaller, lighter bikes are in my future.

Good question. I am pretty sure that I will keep the CB until I just cannot ride it anymore, or until I really need the money for other more important issues (health, kids, etc). It is just a too beautiful machine. When I see it standing there next to my Moto Guzzi Griso, I just can stare at these 2 bikes for hours. Wonderful examples of how to combine technology and art.

You’re both right: that’s exactly what i meant by saying “a valid hybrid or electric alternative”: one with the right price, because for the moment electric technogy costs way too much, and also practical as my CB: i think that in about 10 years we’ll have the technology to charge the batteries in 5 minutes and have about 600kms of range, because just look at what they’ve achieved at the moment; 10 years ago it would have seemed impossible! And now that manufacturers are investing in electric technology like never before, who knows what the future has for us..

Well, planning to keep riding her till either she's too broken to fix, or I am no longer capable. But that's what I said for the previous bikes I own too...Big Grin

They'll have to prise it from my cold dead hands.

I intend to keep mine for the foreseeable future.

I deliberately grabbed the chance to get mine when I did as I don't see anything better than it coming out under the increasingly strict Euro emissions regulations. So this is my last bike!

Might be easier to just swap out motorcycle batteries at recharge stations and move on.

I am sure the powers that be will put on additional user fees (tax) for discretional fossil fuel burning vehicles in the future.
