Base vs Deluxe Dilemma

My standard rocks! If it looks a little worn after 20 years that's OK with me. I love the simplicity of the bike. If you're worried about gnats getting stuck on it while your headed to bingo or you're afraid you might look like some high school hooligan, then it's probably not the right bike for you. If you do take the plunge and get a standard remember this - it is offensive to us cool people if you wear a jacket made out of anything other than black leather.

This thread should be renamed "divided we fall" - outnumbered '14 standard owners being picked on by everyone else .

I love the black, stealthy, Darth Vader hooligan look of the bike, but its not for everyone. If it strikes your fancy more than the deluxe, I'd say go for it and put the $1800 towards paying it off faster. Or farkles.

+1 on the perfed black leather.

Thanks for the clarification, I've looked at some many bikes between 4 stores last couple of weeks, I must've confused the '13 panel with '14...

Gumby 1100, I take it you are the reserved one around here? The thing is, most of my bikes have been red, I actually never had a black bike... I dunno, I got 2 more days to decide. Either way, it's an awesome bike.

Point taken. In person I'm very much the stereotypical reserved and polite Canadian, but forums tend to bring out the Mr. Hyde in some of us.

Maybe you need to be under 30 to appreciate the blacked-out base model, but to me it seems to fly in the face of the whole '70s retro theme. As a youth most of the early CB750s (and similar offerings from Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha) seemed to be bright colours, and the only all-black UJMs I saw were stolen and hiding under a cheap coat of spray paint

The only sad part when buying new riding jacket 4 years after selling my last bike is that it's a size bigger, and not because of the shoulder... I blame it on my 3.5 year twins!

No worries, nothing wrong with strong opinions. I would love to be under 30, and I'm sure I was at some point, but I don't remember anymore...

My CB750 was the unpopular K8 too, and probably too much black!

Hmmm....maybe one of the 14 std owners will chime in. I thought both gauge packages were the same, but maybe not. So you are saying they got the gear indicator but not the fuel computer?

Same gauge as the deluxe, with the exception of the black clock faces. Shows MPG for trips A and B, along with real time mpg.

More significant for 2014, a new model is making its debut in March. Called the CB1100 Deluxe, this upmarket version of the CB is fitted with ABS, a larger fuel tank (by 0.5 gallons), and a sleek four-into-two exhaust system. The Deluxe also boasts a retro stitched-look seat and restyled side covers, and the same gauge package that’s optional on the regular CB1100 is standard on this bike. Retail price for the new CB1100 Deluxe, available only in Candy Red, is $11,899.
