I love the paint job but it's basically a late '90s Nighthawk, which I already owned, so the answer is "no."

Would you have bought this instead?

Not me. In another thread there is a discussion about the timeless nature of some designs. I don't feel this one has it. If the CB wasn't available but this was, I think I would have passed right over this machine as an option. Who knows what I would have ended up with? I probably would have just stayed with one bike, come to think of it. The CB convinced me I needed a second.

Same time frame, they had a black colour with orange stripes that was much more attractive. Amazing what just changing the color scheme can do.

If there was no 1100 maybe. But I never bought the Nighthawk, I was riding cruisers and quads then. It wasn't until the 1100 was available that I sold my cruiser and never looked back.
In 2012 I was seriously looking at the new NC700x but just couldn't pull the trigger. Even looked at the Kawi and Suzi thinking perhaps an ADV bike. Glad I didn't. If the 1100 had been on the floor it would have been mine then.

Love the look but already had 2 750 Nighthawks. Would have stayed with my Versys. Miss it and may have to rent one to get my fix. Kawi has come out with a 3rd gen version with changes that look tempting.

Have never cared for that style bodywork. I would pass.

Nope. Not for me. If I didn't get the CB1100, it was going to be a Thruxton. Very close choice till the end.

It's not as elegant as the CB1100, but it's still OK for all that. Were the CB1100 not available I may well have looked at that bike.

Killer looking bike , However , the CB1100 is what kindled my fire ... It just doesn't compare for me .

The bike in Ferret's link is an RC42. It's an upgraded version of the U.S. Nighthawk (better brakes, suspension...) that was sold in Europe and Japan throughout the 90s and 00s. The Freddie Spencer edition is nice, but I prefer it in the classic RWB paint scheme.
![]() As for the original question, I would have definitely bought one if the CB1100 were not available. I was in the market for a classic UJM because my old Nighthawk was getting on in years. If there were no CB1100, this would be the obvious choice for me. |
