Lorenzo certainly earned that victory. I do wonder what the race may have been if Rossi's bike hadn't died.

Both Lorenzo and Marquez had superb rides. I have to confess to a moment of, well, schadenfreude, when yellow smoke gave way to white smoke.

Moto3, as usual, provided the race of the day. Moto2 good as well. But have to give it to the premier class for drama.

MotoGP newb question: Does Rossi have any kind of duty to get the heck off the track when something very wrong is going on with his engine? Just glad that nobody crashed in whatever mess his bike was spewing.

Otherwise, interesting day of racing. Moto2 was a confusing mess and Moto3 provided the most excitement. Binder planned the endgame perfectly! Lorenzo was, methinks, paying attention.

He pulled off the racing line as soon as his bike developed a problem. That's good. When it began to cough its guts out he left the track. That's good. Bikes have been known to contaminate the track, normally with oil, with the rider oblivious to what is going on. The marshals will display a black and orange flag and the rider must then leave the track immediately. If the track is contaminated then a yellow flag will be displayed indicating danger ahead and no overtaking until a green is displayed after the clean up.

What the actual rule is would be published by FIM. Rossi, I grudgingly admit, did the right thing (for a change).

Quote:6. If the rider encounters a problem with the machine which will result in his retirement from the practice or the race, then he should not attempt to tour at reduced speed to the pits but should pull off the track and park his machine in a safe place or as indicated by the marshals.

7. Riders who are returning slowly to the pits for remedial work should ensure that they travel as far as possible off the racing line.
Rossi would, I surmise, have first done as required by 7 on the chance the bike was repairable. There may still have been points left in it for him. After it became obvious that it was all over he complied with 6.

Man what a race. I just got through watching it. Feel sorry for Rossi, hope he can make up the points somewhere else. I was really pulling for him last year, and this year.

Lorenzo rode a flawless race. Kept his cool, rode his lines, clicked off a ton of laps in the 1:48s and a few 1:47's, never went wide once, braked brilliantly, and made use of the draft and the Yamaha's acceleration at exactly the right time. Masterful ride.

Feel for Marquez, he absolutely rode the wheels off that Repsol Honda to take the lead, only to be denied at the end by a brilliant move by Lorenzo.

Feel sorry for Rossi. Buzzard luck this year. But he has come back from worse. he was 51 points down in 06 and took over the lead with a race or two to go (then fell at Valencia handing the Championship to Hayden)

Also feel for Dani, after working his way past both Ducati's to get into podium position, Ianonne gets past in last 2 laps.

also feel for Vinales, brilliant qualifying, horrible start. Horrible. He rode well during the race though. Since Suzuki has unlimited engines and practice time he should take a day and practice nothing but starts.
