No, not bird. True oz talk for female is “Sheila”.

sheila. /ˈʃiːlə/

nounINFORMAL•AUSTRALIAN/NZ

a girl or woman.

Supposedly derived from the Irish girls’
name Sìla.

A 'bloke' is what North Americans call a guy. One might have called a woman a 'bird' along time ago; now you'd be rewarded with a punch on the nose. Similarly we used to call them 'shelias' but that is also likely to earn you a knuckle sandwich.

Thanks - all sounds 'bout right from what I gather 'round here. Smile

Come summer in Phoenix and my riding, save for early morning jaunts to coffee, grinds to a halt. It's like riding inside a hair dryer or heat gun set to melt. Cold weather riding is no fun either but I have heated gear and grips to help.

Your riding area does sound like what our West used to be in the 50's and 60's.

Last summer, here right on the north Atlantic coast, we experienced one of the hottest and most humid summers on record. Many days it was too hot to ride or do most anything physical. Our Eskimo blood just isn't used to this sort of thing Big Grin Big Grin
And we're being told "get used to it!" More to come.
Along with that, this January has been very mild with none of the brutal freezing temps we normally get.
Instead of -15C (5F) it rains with crazy mild temps of +10C (50F). Barely any snow, but there's lots of winter left and it could all come down on us at once.

Each region has its lumps I suppose.

Personally, I'd trade summer drenching humidity for the desert. Washing helmets liners (at least the ones that are removable) becomes a drag and takes its toll on the helmet. In any case, each region has their limits. Maybe San Diego, CA is optimal, but I am sure there is something else lurking to compensate for the convenience.

... Some rich man came and raped the land, nobody caught 'em,
Put up a bunch of ugly boxes and, Jesus, people bought 'em
And they called it paradise, the place to be,
They watched the hazy sun sinking in the sea ...
